Why Snyder’s Storytelling Comment Is So Important
Snyder makes a valid point about the importance of the Superman costume in the larger context of the story. InMan of Steel, there was a very charged tone as part of Snyder’s vision for the Kryptonian culture, as Cavill’s Clark Kent got his uniform through his heritage rather than having Martha Kent make it, which is the case in a lot of adaptations. That is why the Superman costume inthe DCEU timelinelooks as alien as it does because it is literally from another planet and society.
ForGunn’sSupermanmovie, it is unclear where Corenswet is getting his costume from, as the world has only seen the suit through set photos, but in the midst of battle scenes. The origin of that costume could still have an emotional component to it, whether it is something that was part of his ship when he landed on Earth or something his Earth mother makes for him as a meaningful gift. Whether it will be on the same level as Snyder’s approach in the DCEU remains to be seen.
With Gunn’sSupermanhaving finished principal photography, time will tell when the first trailer will roll out. It will likely not be for another couple of months as they are in the post-production stage, which includes a lot of VFX work that comes with this film. Hopefully, at the very least, the firstSupermantrailer will be released before 2024 is over.
