When the DualSense Edge was first announced, I was skeptical. I honestly thought it was just gimmicky hardware. But after weeks of using it, I can confidently say it’s been an absolute game-changer. It’s not just a controller; it’s a performance upgrade.

Here’s why I think the controller is worth it.

1Enhanced Control with Back Paddles and Hair Triggers

Althoughthe standard DualSense controller has many hidden features, it doesn’t quite feel like the ultimate pro-gaming weapon. The DualSense Edge, however, absolutely delivers on this promise.

The controller includes two sets of buttons you may install on the backside. Once installed, you can assign any button or action to them. I’ve found the paddles incredibly useful in competitive shooters, where split-second decisions can make all the difference.

For example, I can assign sprint to one paddle and reload to the other. This means that if I’m walking and sense that an enemy might be onto me, I can quickly sprint away and reload my weapon without moving my thumbs off the right stick.

Another standout feature is the hair triggers. Adjusting the trigger sensitivity to my preference has significantly improved my aim and responsiveness. The switches for adjusting the trigger lengths are conveniently located right next to them, so you’re able to do it on the fly without opening an app.

Customization software for the DualSense Edge

For instance, when I’m playing a game like GTA, I set the trigger length to a minimum on foot, so I can quickly shoot my weapon. For driving, I set the trigger length to maximum to have more control over the car’s acceleration. It’s like having a tailor-made controller designed specifically for my play style.

2Comprehensive Software for Customization

The software accompanying the DualSense Edge is a game-changer in personalization. It’s incredibly user-friendly and offers a deep level of customization that I haven’t seen in any other controller. The possibilities are endless, from adjusting dead zones and trigger sensitivity to creating custom button mappings. I’ve spent countless hours fine-tuning my settings to create profiles tailored to different games.

As you’d expect, you can create multiple profiles and quickly switch between profiles for different games, ensuring optimal settings for each one. The software also allows you to adjust the stick sensitivity independently, which is a fantastic feature for games that require precise aiming. It’s clear that Sony put a lot of thought into creating a software experience that truly complements the hardware.

Moreover, the function keys (Fn) add a whole new layer of functions. Once you’ve set up the profiles, you can very conveniently switch between them in-game by holding down the function keys and tapping the assigned buttons. The function keys also let you control things like headset volume, making the overall experience even more seamless and enjoyable.

3The Modular Design Advantage

The modular design of the DualSense Edge is a stroke of genius. It’s a feature that I never knew I needed until I had it. The stick caps are easily switchable; I just have to yank them out and add new ones. But the modularity goes further than that. you’re able to swap out the faceplate with the switch of a button, an experience much unlikeswapping out the faceplate of a DualSense controller. Moreover, once you take off the faceplate, you can remove the entire stick module by releasing a lever.

Being able to swap out the stick modules easily is a major leap.Stick drifthas been a significant issue with the standard DualSense controller. It’s frustrating to deal with stick drift, which seems to be almost inevitable with the DualSense.Fixing stick drift on the standard DualSenseis no easy feat. However, with the DualSense Edge, you may replace the sticks without touching a screwdriver or sending the entire controller in for repair.

DualSense Edge charging carrying case

Additionally, after using the DualSense Edge for over a year, I’m pleased to report that the sticks are still in excellent condition. This is impressive, especially compared to my experience with the standard DualSense.

4Sleek and Functional Charging Case

The case is more than just a pretty accessory; it’s a practical and essential part of the DualSense Edge package. It’s sleek, stylish, and does an excellent job of protecting the controller from damage. The fact that it also charges the controller is a massive convenience.

The inclusion of a charging lock is a small but thoughtful touch. It prevents the charging cable from accidentally disconnecting, ensuring that my controller is always ready to go. You could say that PlayStation has somewhat compensated for the shorter battery life by making charging more convenient.

5A Premium Feel

You know you’re holding something special when you pick up the DualSense Edge. The build quality is exceptional, with premium materials and a solid weight that exudes durability. The grips are comfortable and provide excellent support, even during extended gaming sessions. The controller just feels more substantial and refined than the standard DualSense.

The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the design, with the dotted grip patterns revealing themselves as the PlayStation symbols on a closer look. The overall aesthetic is sleek and modern, with a subtle elegance that sets it apart from other controllers. It’s clear that Sony aimed to create a product that not only performs exceptionally but also looks and feels like a premium accessory.

In the end, the DualSense Edge controller is an investment that serious gamers won’t regret. Every aspect of this controller is designed with the player in mind. While it might carry a premium price tag, the unparalleled control and comfort make it a worthwhile purchase for those seeking the ultimate gaming experience.

Trust me, once you’ve experienced the DualSense Edge, it’s hard to go back to a standard controller.
