WARNING: This article contains minor spoilers for Sweet Home season 3.
Summary
Sweet Homeseason 4 is not happening, but there is a good reason why Song Kang’s Netflix K-drama will not continue. The most popular of theNetflix K-dramas starring Song Kang,Sweet Homepremiered in 2020 and became the first Korean series to enter the streamer’s global Top 10.Since then, Netflix has released several original K-dramas, including smash hits likeSquid GameandAll of Us Are Dead. Despite the massive success of the first season, it took three years forSweet Homeseason 2 to premiere. Fortunately, the wait for season 3 was nowhere near as long.
Some of thebest K-dramas of all timeare classic broadcast shows that ran for only 16 episodes. Sweet Home Season 3 Is The Show’s Final
Season 3 Concluded Song Kang’s Netflix K-Drama
Sweet Homeis ending with season 3. This has been known since the release of the first poster forSweet Home’s third chapter, with Netflix referring to it as the“final season.”Sweet Homedirector Lee Eung-bok, who had been behind the show since season 1, had also described season 3 as the“grand finale.”This is whySweet Homeseason 3 feels so definitiveand wraps up all the storylines. While it is bittersweet to say goodbye to names like Song Kang’s Hyun-su, Lee Do-hyun’s Eun-hyeok, and Go Min-si’s Eun-yu, season 3 was the right time to end.
Considering thatSweet Homewas renewed for two more seasons in 2021, it is clear that season 3 was planned to be the show’s final in advance. It must be noted thatSweet Homeis aK-drama based on a webtoonwhose ending matched that of the first season. In other words, ifSweet Homewere to follow its source material closely, the series should not have continued after season 1. By continuing Hyun-su’s story past the webtoon,Sweet Homehad to introduce new storylines and characters, which is why season 2 looked so different from the first one.

Sweet Homewebtoon was written by Kim Carnby and illustrated by Hwang Young-chan.
TheSweet Homewebtoon ended with Hyun-soo turning into a giant monster and sacrificing himself to stop Joong-seop as the Green Home was destroyed. This matches how the first season ended. None ofSweet Homeseason 2’s new characters were from the webtoon, but they turned out to be important additions to the show as seen in season 3. The fact thatSweet Homecontinued for two more seasons after its successful debut was not surprising, but it is good that the show’s ending had been planned for a while.
