What Is Lemon8?
Lemon8 is a photo and video-sharing platform. It was launched by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, in Japan in 2020 and then expanded to other Asian countries like Thailand and Singapore. It debuted in the US and the UK in February 2023 but took off in March after media organizations and TikTok influencers began promoting it.
According to its App Store description, Lemon8 is “a place for young creatives to share a diversity of content from fashion, makeup, food, and travel, to homewares, pets, and anything else you can imagine”. Several TikTok influencers have also described the app as a cross of Instagram (before Reels) and Pinterest.

Lemon8 is similar to TikTok in that it has both a “Following” and a “For You” page, but that’s just about where the similarities end. Lemon8 is more focused on photos than videos, which is a huge relief considering theTikTok-ification of most other social media platforms.
The app allows users to create posts using templates, stickers, filters, and fonts. It also has a carousel feature that lets users upload multiple photos in one post.

How Does Lemon8 Work?
Lemon8 works similarly to other social media apps. You sign up with your email or phone number, choose your username and pronouns, and select your interests. Then, you could start browsing the app and interacting with other users.
There are two main sections in the app:FollowingandFor You. The Following section shows posts from the users you follow, while the For You section shows those that match your interests. you may also switch between different categories under the For You section by tapping the category name at the top of the screen.

Should You Download Lemon8 Yet?
If you’re looking to jump on a new social media platform, Lemon8 is worth checking out. The app offers a unique blend of Instagram and Pinterest-style content that’s been gaining popularity, and the app’s tools are easy to use.
However, the app is much younger than its competitors, so there’s far less content and engagement than on other leading social media platforms. If you’re looking for a platform with more user engagement, you may want to wait and see how Lemon8 develops.
