Summary

Charlie reminding Ian of their past returned to haunt Ian inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 9, and Ian’s horrible reaction risked making everything worse for KPD. Ever since being assigned to interview Charlie to find the bodies of his victims inMayor of Kingstownseason 2, Ian and Charlie’s relationship has been difficult, with Ian seemingly showing Charlie kindness but questioning his humanity behind his back, continuing to see him only as a monster. Charlie’s tendency to rely on him convinced Ian he could manipulate him, leading to one ofMayor of Kingstownseason 2’s most disturbing moments.

Using Charlie’s past to influence Ben Morrissey into not testifying against Robert was already highly unethical and breaking the law, but it became a ticking time bomb the moment Morrissey threatened Ian and Charlie reacted by killing Morrissey. While the event had yet to have repercussions for Ian directly, Charlie keeping to mention “the man on the porch” every time he met Ian inMayor of Kingstownseason 3 made the situation all the more difficult. Indeed, anyone could have picked up on the real meaning behind Charlie’s words had they connected Charlie’s dentist appointment to Morrissey’s death timeline.

Mayor Of Kingstown Season 3 Just Proved Why Evelyn Was Right To Worry About Robert

Robert’s conduct has long been problematic, but it reached new heights in Mayor of Kingstown season 3, hinting at the show finally taking care of him.

Charlie Being Killed On Top Of Morrissey Makes The Robert Problem Much Bigger

Charlie repeatedly referencing Morrissey evidently spooked Ian, and while he could handle Charlie better if they were alone, having Stevie on the trip to find one of Charlie’s victims made the ending to that story inevitably tragic.Ian killing Charlie with the excuse that Charlie tried to attack himnot only proved the final blow in the incredibly unequal rapport that relegated Charlie to a position to be controlled by Ian but also added yet another death to the tally of those killed to protect Robert. The ordeal’s extent makes it impossible to ignore how protecting Robert is counterproductive.

Ian wasn’t embroiled in the crimes Robert was accused of buthe became involved the moment Ian used Charlie to convince Morrissey to retractonly to make the situation worse by causing Morrissey’s death.Ian killing Charlie makes the situation even worse by incriminating himself for someone who kept executing criminals instead of bringing them to justice, thus inevitably linking Ian’s fate to Robert’s. WithMayor of Kingstownseason 3 hinting at the end of Robert’s storybeing close, Ian’s actions condemned him to suffer a fate he wouldn’t have needed to only to protect his killer friend.

Kenny Johnson as Charlie and Hugh Dillon as Ian in Mayor of Kingstown season 3

Ian killing Charlie because he kept referring to Morrissey and how involved they both were in his death makes Charlie’s story sadder and Ian’s fate inevitably linked to Robert’s.

Ian Killing Charlie To Hide His Crimes Confirms Corruption Within KPD Is Extensive

Cleaning Up Kingstown Would Entail Evelyn Taking Apart Various Institutions

Ian’s actions reflect even worse on KPD, who looks more and more like the gang Mike described them to be inMayor of Kingstownseason 1. KPD already had to manage the fallout from Robert’s conduct, which only worsened as he returned to work after the Crips’ hit on him.Ian also killing criminals makes KPD’s problem with accountability wider, and something that Evelyn would be forced to fix, especially if she were to receive the state’s help to clean up Kingstown as her actions inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 9 hinted at.

Evelyn had been sure of Robert’s crimes sinceMayor of Kingstownseason 2, but if she were to connect Ben Morrissey’s death to Charlie’s death and Ian, corruption within KPD would be impossible to deny. This would force Evelyn to take apart the entire police departmentwhich made all those crimes to be covered up possible, essentially dismantling the institution that acted as Mike’s right hand when he needed gangs to be brought to order. Such an outcome could cause Mike substantial problems and permanently modify Kingstown’s layout inMayor of Kingstown.
