As a standalone sequel,Twistersdoesn’t feature any returningTwistercharacters, but the movie does include the return of an actor from the original film. Arriving nearly three decades after Jan de Bont’s 1996 beloved disaster movie,Twistersfocuses on the next generation of storm chasers. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell leadTwisterscast of new characters, who are all trying to use their expertise to gather unique research on tornadoes. Whereas Kate (Edgar-Jones) takes the more traditional scientific approach, Tyler (Powell) uses his charm and popularity as a “Tornado Wrangler” to essentially help those affected by severe storms.
By theend ofTwisters, it’s no surprise that Kate and Tyler team up to attempt Kate’s tornado-taming experiment that killed much of her team years prior. Tyler’s team shares many similarities with Jo Harding’s old crew. In fact, both Kate and Tyler have experienced traumatizing events involving tornadoes, which has motivated them to better understand the weather phenomena. The same could be said about Jo from the original movie. Even thoughHelen Hunt doesn’t return forTwisters, someone connected to her character appears in the new movie.

Where To Spot Bill Paxton’s Family Cameo In Twisters

Twisters' Only Returning Actor From The Original Movie Explained
April Warren has become the only person to appear in bothTwisterandTwistersdespite appearing in two separate roles. Warren first portrayed “Flashback Mom” in the Wakita sequence in the originalTwistermovie when the crew tried to find Aunt Meg. Warren was uncredited for the role meant to remind Jo of her tragic past since the family looked just like hers. 28 years later,Warren returned to the franchise playing an uncredited extra inTwisters' rodeo scene, where she sat next to Powell’s character in the stands before the tornado hit.
Glen Powell’s parents are sitting behind Tyler and Kate in the stands at the rodeo inTwisters. His parents have cameoed in every one of his movies sinceSpy Kids 3-D.

Twisters' Returning Actor Cameo Being A Coincidence Makes It Even Better
April Warren Became An Extra In Twisters On Her Own
After learning the actress who played “Flashback Mom” also appeared inTwisters, you would assume she had connections to the sequel that led her back. However, that’s not the case at all. According to April Warren (viaKFOR News), the Oklahoma native sought out a part as an extra after discovering the newTwistermovie was filming. Even better, the woman shared herTwisterexperience with Powell while preparing forTwisters' rodeo scene. The revelation caused Powell to immediately alert director Lee Isaac Chung so he could meet Warren.
Warren also appeared in Chung’s previous Midwestern movie,Minari. Granted, appearing inTwistersafter her memorable experience working onTwisterwas likely the highlight of her career thus far, especially since it all came together coincidentally. Warren noted that this time around, she was able to run among the chaos as a rodeo attendee instead of playing a character standing in the aftermath. She’s still unsure how much of her character can be seen in the final cut ofTwisters, but being the only person to appear in both movies is still an awesome achievement.
