Summary

Todd Stashwick gives a realistic answer about the chances ofStar Trek: Picard’s proposed continuation,Star Trek: Legacy, happening after Paramount is sold Skydance. On July 8th, Paramount Global announced a merger with Skydance Media and RedBird Capital. Paramount’s new leadership team will be headed up by David Ellison, who becomes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the new Paramount. While it’s too soon to know what this merger means forStar Trek, which is owned by Paramount,Ellison was executive producer ofStar Trek Into DarknessandStar Trek Beyond.

During Todd Stashwick’s Instagram Live chat with artist Jenny R. Johnson,Screen Rant’s Rob Keyes asked Stashwick if he thinks there is a real chance ofStar Trek: Legacyhappeningafter the Paramount/Skydance deal is finalized. Stashwick has gone on the record stating that he would love to reprise Liam Shaw in a continuation ofStar Trek: Picardseason 3, butTodd doesn’t thinkStar Trek: Legacyis in the cards in the next two years.Read Todd’s quote below:

Emperor Gerogiou, Captain Pike, and Lt. Boimler from Star Trek

I don’t have a crystal ball. I know that David Ellison is a good man. He is the Skydance [CEO]… I don’t know. I think he’s a Star Trek fan. Uh, I don’t know. That would be a question for them. I think there’s always a chance that they could do a Legacy. It’s just not gonna happen this year [and] probably not next year. Terry Matalas is tied up doing other stuff. So they’d probably have to wait til he’s available. So I don’t have an answer for you.

The Odds Against Star Trek: Legacy Happening Explained

There are always possibilities…

Paramount+ did not heed the rabid audience interest inStar Trek: Legacy, which was set up by theending ofStar Trek: Picardseason 3. Given various changes in Paramount+’s streaming model, which included canceling several series, includingStar Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, andStar Trek: Prodigy, and now the sale of Paramount to Skydance,Star Trek on Paramount+’s slate has been significantly trimmed down.Star Trek’s upcoming projects consist of new seasons ofStar Trek: Strange New Worlds, the streaming movieStar Trek: Section 31, and a new series,Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

There is always a chanceStar Trek: Legacycould still happen whenStar Trek’s future in the new Paramount under Skydance Media is clearer.
