Summary

The Settled Systems ofStarfieldare full of unique resources just waiting to be extracted by the observant player. Unfortunately, most of thoseresources are hiding at the edges of the galaxyin high-level systems. This means the best resources in the game are often unreachable toStarfield’sbeginners. Luckily, there is one planet that is an exception to this rule.

Carinae III-a is the first moon of the Carinae system’s third planet. While it does not look like much on the surface, it holds mineral wealth in the form of Rothicite. In fact, this planet is the only place to acquire the resource inStarfieldbesides vendors.

10 Weirdest Planets In Starfield To Explore

There are a ton of interesting star systems to explore outside of Starfield’s main, faction, and side quests, but some are weirder than others.

Finding Carinae III-a & Mining Rothicite

Locating It Is Not Hard; You Just Need To Know Where To Look

WhileStarfield’sCarinae system can be accessed relatively early in the game, it may be hard to find for those who do not know where to look. It is only a few jumps away from Alpha Centauri, but it is hiding near the northwest corner of the Settled Systems. While it is not the farthest system to the northwest, it is pretty close, nestled right next to Eta Cassiopeia. Players may travel to Eta Cassiopeia duringSarah Morgan’s personal quest, so that system is more well-known than Carinae.

Once they jump to the level 20 Carinae system, players can locate Carinae III-a around the system’s third planet, which should be highly visible due to being a gas giant. This humble planet offerscommon resources like iron, lead, and water, but it also contains the unique Rothicite. Players with a rank 4 scanning skill will be able to find the best spots to mine this resource from orbit, but this is not necessary to find the deposits on the surface.

Starfield: 10 Choices That Actually Matter

Starfield has many choices that one can make, but not all of them matter. Here are a few that actually impact the narrative and gameplay.

The Spacefarer canuse the hand scanner to find mineral deposits hiding in plain sight. If the player presses the outpost button while the hand scanner is open, the available resources within the outpost’s range will also be shown in the top left corner of the screen. Once a Rothicite deposit is found, extractors will be required for mining. Like other metal extractors, basic Rothicite extractors will require 4 aluminum, 5 iron, and 2 tungsten.

Solar arrays to power the extractors will also require 4 aluminum, 2 beryllium, and 3 copper per array.

Sell Rothicite For An Incredible Profit

Or Use It To Build The Best Outpost Reactor

Carinae III-a may be the only planet for mining Rothicite, but a resource is not necessarily useful just because it is scarce. The primary use of Rothicite is in thecrafting of Rothicite Magnets and in researching Power Generation 4. Both of these uses contribute to the construction of advanced reactors for outposts. These are the most powerful outpost reactors, providing 100 units of power each.

Beyond its use in outpost construction, Rothicite is also worth a pretty penny to vendors. Itsbase value is 106, but it will likely only sell for 15 credits unless the player levels their commerce skill. While this does not sound like a lot, Rothicite extractors will produce a lot of Rothicite quickly, andit is not difficult to get thousands of samples to sell. The only challenge for this is the weight of Rothicite, as its mass is 2.20, thoughStarfieldlets the player get around this by fast traveling from the pilot seat.
