The Terror Season 3 Casts First Lead Role With Dan Stevens
Summary
Dan Stevens joins the cast ofThe Terrorseason 3, becoming the first lead actor announced for the new season of AMC’s anthology-style supernatural horror series. Dan Simmons’ acclaimed horror novel served as the basis forThe Terrorseason 1, the bone-chilling, based-on-fact historical tale of an Arctic shipwreck and its aftermath. Season 2 switched gears to tell a ghost story set in a Japanese-American internment camp during WW2, and the recently announcedThe Terrorseason 3will continue the anthology-style trend with an all-new story based on Victor LaValle’s novelThe Devil in Silver.
A premiere date has yet to be announced for the new season ofThe Terror, but the cast is beginning to assemble, asDownton Abbeystar Stevens reportedly joins the show both as actor and executive producer (viaVariety). Stevens plays a character named Pepper, whose description can be read below:

“A working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets, and perhaps even the very Devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls – but doing so may prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.”
Why Stevens Is A Good Addition To The Cast Of The Terror
Stevens became a small screen star thanks to his role onDownton Abbey, but has crossed over to the big screen in movies like this year’sGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and many others. Possessed of the looks and presence to be a leading man, Stevens nonetheless seems to pursue quirky roles that allow him to show off his character actor skills. That versatility alone makes him a good choice forThe Terrorseason 3, in a role that seems both offbeat and intense.
The role of Pepper, a man wrongfully committed to a mental hospital, who must band together with fellow inmates to battle the literal devil, should make good use of Stevens’ ability to portray extremes of emotion. Stevens has indeed demonstrated that he can go dark, in movies likeThe GuestandAbigail, and shows likeLegion, while still remaining charismatic and humorous.
Karyn Kusama will produceThe Terrorseason 3, and direct the first two of the season’s six episodes
LaValle’s novelThe Devil in Silverdescribes the character of Pepper as a physically large individual, which may not be a great match for Stevens, but what the actor may lack in size, he makes up for in presence. With one lead role cast,The Terrorseason 3 must now find actors to play Pepper’s colorfully-named fellow inmates, Coffee, Dorry and Loochie, who join Pepper in battling both the guards at the asylum, and the devil himself.
