The reason whySuits: LAis happening six years afterSuits’finale confirms one harsh reality about the original series' popularity. Theupdates forSuits: LAhave been exciting for those who watched the flagship series, from the new cast of characters including Ted Black (Stephen Amell) to Harvey Specter’s (Gabriel Macht) return. However, having a spinoff occur so long after the original’s ending can be quite confusing, especially considering how popularSuitscontinues to be.

Having a spinoff or revival of a series is a currently strong trend, with shows likeWhite Collaralso getting some form of continuation or reboot years after their original network pulled the plug on them. WhileSuits: LA’scharacters will be different, its premise largely copies that ofSuits, seemingly guaranteeing it will do well if it is good enough.Suits’massivepopularity, though, is more recent than many would assume, as its Netflix debut in 2023 is responsible for its emergence in the zeitgeist.

Suits Beat The Office’s Streaming Record That Year

Suits’popularity after it became available to stream in 2023 is the main reason whySuits: LAis happening. AfterSuitsarrived on Netflix, it quickly gained acclaim among audiences and expanded its fanbase, beating out the Netflix original seriesWednesdayfor the title of most popular show of that year.Suitsalso beat out another procedural in the form ofThe Office, the law procedural’s 57.7 billion minutes viewed on Netflix surpassing the latter’s 57.1 billion minutes record it set in 2020according toThe Hollywood Reporter.

The Suits Revival I’ve Wanted For Six Years Now Looks Completely Impossible

After learning about Gabriel Macht’s stance on his upcoming return as Harvey Specter, I think my dream Suits revival is totally impossible now.

Suits’streaming record on Netflixnot only allowed the series to have a second life and find new fans but also opened the door for more projects in that universe. AsSuits season 10 would be very trick to pull off, a spinoff appeared to be the next best option, resulting in the announcement ofSuits: LAin October 2023. That being said,Suits’more recent success does have a sadder side to it: it took four years for the show to get this bigworldwide despite its extended run on USA Networks.

Suits' Success Then Is Not Comparable To Now

Due to its success on Netflix,Suitsis now bigger than it ever was during its original run.Suitswas fairly successful during its time on USA Networks, as evidenced by the series' nine-season run, butSuits’streaming successfar surpasses that, especially considering the latter seasons' dropoff of viewers. The finale had the lowest live viewership ofSuitsseason 9, contrasting its near-immediate success once the show arrived in Netflix’s catalog four years later.

Suits’series finale premiered on September 25th, 2019.

A the time, USA Networks had quite a few syndicated television shows with more unique premises likeWhite CollarandPsych. Suits,by comparison, did not really stand out with its law procedural format until later as television evolved and the series' simple but dynamic premise became more desirable to audiences.Suitsshowed that there is a large audience for more traditional procedurals and longer shows, a void thatSuits LAcan help fill if it manages to be as engaging as the original series.
