It’s genuinely interesting to see Cassandra Cain striking out on her own, especially after the conclusion ofBatgirlsby Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, and Jorge Corona, whichstarred Cassandra and fellow Batgirl Stephanie Brown as a duo under the guidance of the original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon. Both girls held the moniker and supported their city through triumphs and losses in many recent DC events, includingJoker War,Dark Crisis, andGotham War. Instead of competing for the title, Stephanie and Cassandra chose to bear it together.

To carry the Batgirl name solo now speaks a great deal to Cass’ development as a character and to the work DC has done to move her out of Gotham’s shadow.
