The Fitbit app’s redesign was long overdue, and reports of the overhaul first emerged as far back asSeptember 2022. Then, the Google-owned fitness accessories manufacturerrevealed the redesignin August this year, rolling it out a month later. However, some of the UI decisions taken by the company didn’t go down well with the large community of Fitbit owners. As a result, Fitbit said it wouldbring back some of the featuresthat were removed during the redesign, including easier visibility of your connected device’s remaining battery percentage via theTodaytab. This key attribute is now back on the Fitbit app for iOS, suggesting an imminent arrival on its Android counterpart.

The battery percentage indicator is now back on the Today tab (as it should have been all along) and was first spotted by9to5Googleon version 4.04 of the Fitbit app for iOS. As the site rightly points out, the widely panned redesign of the Fitbit app didn’t necessarily remove the battery indicator but placed it within theDevicespage. Even then, customers could only find an estimate of the battery, such asBattery Full, and not a precise number or percentage.

The updated device pill featuring the battery indicator changes its color to red when the battery is low, as pointed out by Fitbit on itscommunity pagelast month. Meanwhile, there’s no word on when the battery percentage will return to theTodaytab onAndroid phones. Since the current version of Fitbit for Android (v4.03) doesn’t have any of these changes, the forthcoming 4.04 update could likely re-enable this handy attribute.

Away from the features that existed and were removed, Google and Fitbit have also promised to bring some essential visual elements that should’ve existed from day one, such as dark mode. But this may be lower on the company’s list of priorities than fixing the errors of the September 2023 redesign, which included the removal ofSteps streakfrom the iOS version of Fitbit.

On the brighter side, though, Fitbit has now decided to bring Steps streak to the Android version of the app as well, letting practically all app users, regardless of the platform they’re on, get in on the fun and give themselves extra motivation to keep moving. Fitbit further said it would add celebratory animations on its mobile apps when the user reaches their preset steps goal.

Fitbit has also been in the news recently forexiting several countriesacross Europe, Asia, and Africa, with Google saying this decision was made “in order to align our hardware portfolio to map closer to Pixel’s regional availability.” However, the company clarified that software and customer support will still be provided to device owners in the affected regions.
