Summary
The First Descendant’sfirst major patch is making some adjustments to the game while also setting up a major additionthat many players will undoubtedly be pleased to see. Much like the looter shooters that came before it, theFirst Descendant’s community was quick to find ways to exploit certain glitches in the game and rack up an immense amount of resources, similar to the notorious “Loot Cave” inDestiny. NEXON confirmed that the latest patch is making some adjustments to this while also setting the stage for a beloved character’s new outfit.
Posted to the game’s official blog,NEXONconfirmed thatthe Week 5 Update will finally provide The Shape of Water, Valby herself, with a new suit that’s titled the “Sea of Emerald.“This nano suit is able to replicate Valby’s former body color and texture, allowing her to feel a little more free even when she’s still trapped within the confines of her equipment. The Sea of Emerald also packs two new Modification Modules: Spiral Tidal Wave, a straight-shooting projectile that attracts Gluttony, and Hydro Pressure Bomb, a leaping attack that deals massive area-of-effect damage to all nearby enemies.

The Valby Run Response Suggests It Is
Aside from setting the stage for the Sea of Emerald, theFirst Descendant’s latest patch introduces some minor gameplay changes that seemingly confirm that NEXON wants to engage with its audience.A small but meaningful improvement is the Module storage limit which has been increased from 1,000 to 1,500. Additionally, the “Valby Run” loot farming method has seen a minor decrease in viability but the developer has stated that it has no intention of completely removing the strategy from the game and instead wants to ensure thateach character has a potential “farming” spot.
The “Valby Run” strategy involvesusing the titular hero on hard modein The Fortress Outpost to trigger the boss’s immunity phase while then moving around the arena, dishing out non-stop damage. It’s repetitive, but it’s efficient as some players have managed to acquire thousands of in-game currency through the exploit. In response, NEXON has stated that it’s reduced the rewards obtained with the Valby Run but has also made the “reward efficiency significantly higher"to ensure that players can still farm it to some extent.

Finally, the patch notes also confirmed thatThe First Descendantwill soon gain its first new playable character in the form of Luna. The musically inclined champion is geared to provide supportfor her fellow Descendants while using her Synthesizer Gun, which must be fired on the beat, to deal with enemies. Luna is expected to debut in the game’s next major update, which is slated for next week at the time of writing.
