Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Boys season 4 finale.
Summary
The Boysstar Colby Minifie opens up about a key decision made by her character, Ashley, at the end of season 4. Ashley Barrett is a lead character in the Prime Video series who works as Vought’s Director of Talent Relations in season 1 and is eventually promoted to acting CEO of Vought. Ashley had plenty of stories inThe Boysseason 4, as her relationships with various supes and the original members of the Seven were explored.
Speaking withTVLine, Minifie discusses why Ashley does not go with A-Train when Vought begins falling apart. The actor stated that Ashley “knows the inner workings of Vought too closely” to leave. If she had left Vought, she would have been “hunted down and murdered pretty quickly.” The performer also pointed out that Ashley’s alliance with A-Train was fairly newly formed, so joining forces with him would be risky. Check out the full quote from Minifie below:

I think the devil you know is much safer to her than the devil she doesn’t know. I also think that she knows the inner workings of Vought too closely. I think she knows, on some level, that she wouldn’t last a day knowing what she knows. I think she would be hunted down and murdered pretty quickly. [Plus] that’s a really new alliance that she’s formed with A-Train. A-Train’s been a pain in her ass for so many years, and I think there is a new trust there, but to drop everything and go based on [an idea she had when] she was really drunk [is a big ask]. I think it absolutely terrifies her to actually leave the thing. It’s like leaving an abuser. Like, it’s much harder to leave when you don’t know what the other world looks like.
Ashley Is Headed For A Crazy Arc In The Boys Season 5
Ashley Takes Compound V At The End Of Season 4
Even without leaving Vought, Ashley was in a perilous position this season. The Boysseason 4 finalesaw her being hunted down by The Deep and other members of the Seven, who were trying to kill her. The new Black Noir ends up killing her assistant, who is also named Ashley. That leaves the main Ashley with a new character arc in what is sure to be an eventfulThe Boysseason 5.
If her promotion to CEO in season 3 was not enough,The Boysseason 4 finale arguably sees the biggest turn for Ashley yet. As she fears for her life in Vought Tower, Ashley accesses the storage area for Compound V and decides to take the supe-making substance for herself. After the injection, she convulses, confirming the substance has entered her bloodstream, but her powers have not yet been revealed.
The nature of Ashley’s powers is a big cliffhanger forThe Boysthat can be further articulated in the final season. Whether her powers are related to strength, intelligence, or another special skill, Ashley’s Compound V ingestion makes her a much more powerful character. She could end up joining forces with the supes, or joining the fight against Homelander. Either way, Ashley will be much harder to kill inThe Boysseason 5, leaving the character with more story potential.
