Summary

With many exciting spin-offs lined up forThe Boys, it is hard not to be excited about the franchise’s future. As Eric Kripke has confirmed,The Boysseason 5 will likely end the parent seriesof the franchise. However, as the planned upcoming spin-offs forThe Boyssuggest, the live-action superhero franchise is not ending anytime soon. It makes sense that Amazon is investing more in expandingThe Boys' lore through spin-offs and prequels because the franchise, so far, has been both a critical and commercial hit.

While only time will tell whether the upcoming installments ofThe Boyswill continue to expand the franchise’s world-building in a positive direction and maintain the high critical ratings that previous seasons and spin-offs have achieved, the strong foundation set byThe Boyspromises a bright future for the franchise. Even the announcements and latest updates surrounding the upcoming spin-offs make it hard not to believe that they will live up to the high expectations set by the parent series. And if all goes well, the upcoming planned spin-offs' success could pave the way for more new installments in the franchise.

2The Boys: Mexico

The Boys: Mexico’s Release Window Remains Uncertain

Despite being officially confirmed in November 2023,The Boys: Mexicohas progressed relatively slowly compared to other planned spin-offs forThe Boys.Eric Kripke offered some updatessurrounding the show’s development by revealing that “there are a lot of hurdles for that show before it’s a real show.” He disclosed that a deal was being made with the writer who offered an “amazing pitch,” but it will be a while before they can start dropping “the Easter eggs and the setups and stuff” surrounding the show’s release.

While Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has been confirmed as the show’s writer, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are its executive producers. Like the parent series, Eric Kripke and Seth Rogen will also be involved with the spin-off in some capacity, suggesting that it might have subtle connections withThe Boys. AlthoughThe Boys: Mexico’sstory details are still shrouded in mystery, the series could also take theGen Vroute and have its narrative intertwined with the parent show. This would pave the way for many cameos fromGen VandThe Boysin its story.

Since Eric Kripke has confirmed thatThe Boysseason 5 will likely mark the end of the main series' run,The Boys: Mexicocould be a standalone offshoot if it sees the light of day afterThe Boys' final installment. However, since the franchise is gradually expanding with several new spin-offs in the future,The Boys: Mexicocould still have subtle connections with other additions in the overarching series. Despite its change of setting, it would be interesting to see howThe Boys: Mexicowould expand the franchise’s lore in a new direction.

The Boys: Mexico

The Boys: Mexico is a spin-off of Prime Video’s The Boys. The series will follow a new cast of characters set in The Boys universe in modern-day Mexico.

1Vought Rising

Vought Rising Is The First Prequel Spin-Off In The Franchise

InThe Boys' panel at 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed that a prequel spin-off, titledVought Rising, was under development. With Paul Grellong and Eric Kripke as its producers and Grellong as its showrunner, the spin-off series will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Many other familiar names, like Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr, who are attached to the parent series, are also among the spin-off’s producers.

As per the SDCC announcement, the show will unfold in the 1950s, following a “twisted murder mystery” that will walk through the mysterious origins of Vought International. WhileJensen Ackles will reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the prequel, Aya Cash will play Clara Vought, who is better known asStormfront inThe Boys' timeline. So far, only Soldier Boy and Clara Vought’s return has been confirmed inVought Rising.

Here’s Kripke’s full statement about the show at the SDCC panel:

“We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world ofThe Boys. It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V."

The show’s timeline suggests that viewers can expect to see several other supes, like the OG Black Noir, Crimson Countess, Mindstorm, and other members ofSoldier Boy’s Payback supe team. While the show will flesh out Soldier Boy and Stormfront’s backstory, it might even walk through Homelander’s origins and the events that led to his creation as Soldier Boy’s “upgrade.” SinceThe Boys' spin-off,Vought Rising, will primarily be based on original material due to the lack of story developments in the comics surrounding the 1950s timeline, it will bring more novelty to the overarching franchise.
