Summary

There are few characters on Earth who have been more impactful thanSupermanandDragon Ball’sGoku. The two are absolute beacons of hope for their respective universes and are always the first on the line to fight against any villain who would hurt others. These similarities haven’t gone unnoticed by DC, and the publisher recently honored the late Akira Toriyama’s legacy with anotherDragon Ball-inspired cover.

The animated seriesMy Adventures With Supermanhas been a major hit for DC, and the new tie-in comic follows the adventures between the first two seasons of the TV show. These comics have had fantastic covers, and the highlight has been Ricardo López Ortiz’s variant covers, which perfectly homage Toriyama’s legendary art style.

How Goku can beat Superman, explained.

More Than Strength - The Real Reason Goku is Anime’s Most Iconic Hero is What Separates Him From Superman

Goku and Superman have been compared to each other for decades, but in reality, there’s a lot that goes into why Goku is so different from Superman

Dragon Ball ZVolume 10 Cover by Akira Toriyama

Toriyama is known for his beautifully detailed vehicles, which are often small to a hilarious degree. This cover perfectly captures that exact same feeling, with Jimmy and Lois in a car seemingly far too small for them and yet perfect to a cozy degree. Superman can be spotted below, carrying the car to the destination of their next adventure. It’s a beautiful cover, and it’s not the first timeSuperman has taken inspiration from Goku. While it’s pretty clear thatToriyama took some inspiration from Supermanat the start of theSaiyan Sagaarc, Superman writers have taken just as much inspiration fromDragon Ballin recent years.

Superman and Goku have massively inspired people in the real world to better themselves and to help those in need.

Dragon Ball Z Volume 10 Cover: Goku flies over a country landscape.

Superman and Goku are incredibly similar: they’re bothheroes who are the last surviving members of their home planet, which exploded for one reason or another. They’re both incredibly strong, and they use that strength to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. One of the most blatant examples ofSuperman being inspired by Gokuis inJustice League#25 by Scott Snyder, Jorge Jiménez, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tom Napolitano, where Superman lands a generation-defining punch on the World Forger. This punch was directly inspired by the Father/Son Kamehameha that defeats Cell at the end of theCell Gamessaga.

Dragon BallChapter 17 Art by Akira Toriyama

Superman and Goku have massively inspired people in the real world to better themselves and to help those in need. It’s hard to overstate just how important their influence has been on not only the world but on each other as well. Superman’s origin likely inspired the true origins of Goku, and Goku’s unbelievable strength has inspired some of Superman’s greatest feats. Even though Toriyama is gone, his legacy and art continue to live on asDragon Ballin particular continues to inspire everyone, from the average person doing their best toSupermanhimself.

Superman

The icon who launched the entire world of superheroes, the last son of Krypton escaped his dying world to crash land on Earth and be raised as Clark Kent. The world knows him better as Superman, the Man of Steel, the leader of the Justice League, and the most well-known hero in the DC Comics Universe. Blessed with the powers of a demigod, Kal-El of Krypton fights enemies both small and cosmic in his endless pursuit of truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.

Dragon Ball

From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
