Summary

An extremely talented cosplayer has broughtLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Queen Sonia to life with one particular detail that many often overlook. Despite being the first queen of Hyrule and appearing alongside the Zonai King, Rauru, who had appeared elsewhere in the franchise, Sonia was a completely new character introduced inTears of the Kingdom, appearing mostly through flashbacks related to Zelda’s time-traveling story, and soon became a fan favorite.

Redditoredhel_cosplaytook to the r/zelda subreddit to share their impressive Queen Sonia cosplay with an incredibly detailed outfit, including a headpiece and pointed ears, along with makeup showing various white symbols across her arms with various meanings, including the Triforce on her wrist, whichLegend of Zeldafans are extremely familiar with as it is the ultimate source of power in the franchise. One detail that surprised some commenters in the full body shot of the costume, however, was the large brown ankle bracelet.

Much of the footage of Queen Sonia does not focus on her feet - it’s aZeldagame, not a Tarantino movie, after all - so it’s an easily overlooked detail. However, the character does wear an ankle bracelet similar to this in the game, which can be seen in wider shots, showing just how much attention to detail there is in edhel_cosplay’s depiction.

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom - Why Sonia Is The Perfect First Queen Of Hyrule

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces multiple important pieces of Hyrule’s history, and one particularly perfect addition is Sonia, the first queen.

Queen Sonia Plays An Important Part In Hyrule’s History

Being The First Queen

As previously indicated, Sonia shows up primarily inmemories inTears of the Kingdomthat can be unlocked by tracking down Hyrule’s Geoglyphs. While Sonia played an integral part in Hyrule’s history, founding the Kingdom alongside the Zonai King, Rauru, and serving as its first queen, the priestess' role in her descendent, Zelda’s story was arguably just as important.

After finding Zelda unconscious in the forest and caring for her, Sonia realized that Zelda had traveled back in time and shared asimilar kind of time magic powerto her, albeit one that would ultimately prove to be far more powerful. During this time, the two grew close as Sonia was able to teach her how to control her magical abilities, and Zelda would often share stories from her time to let Sonia know about Link and the future of Hyrule.

Because of how beloved Queen Sonia has become, even in her brief appearance in the overallThe Legend of Zeldafranchise, many have taken to cosplaying her. DespiteThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomcovering nearly the entirety of Zelda’s time with her ancestors in the early days of Hyrule, with titles like the upcomingThe Echoes of Wisdombranching out and focusing on Zelda herself as the lead, there’s room for Nintendo to look to other stories within the game’s universe away from Link, so a new title focusing on the founding of Hyrule could be an interesting way to bring the character back.
