Summary

The Old World Assault Rifle is already one of the most coveted weapons inStarfieldbutone player managed to make it even more powerful thanks to a mysterious (and explosive) glitch. While it may seem strange that a firearm from hundreds of years in the past be as strong as it is inStarfield’s far-flung future, there’s no denying its stopping power, magazine capacity, and rapid-fire functions. Many players have taken to simply referring to it as the AK-47 due to it resembling the iconic rifle but this bugged version is something else entirely.

Posted to Reddit by userMotoJimmy_151,theStarfieldplayer shared a clip of their Old World Assault Rifle firing a barrage of bullets that detonate with a massive explosionwhen they hit the building at which they’re aiming.

The fireworks are so bright and blinding that the screen becomes almost unreadable, prompting the player to state thatthey think they’ve somehow managed to break the game. While the weapon wasn’t used on a standard enemy, one can only imagine the kind of damage the explosions would have dealt if they hit even the most monstrous Terrormorph.

There’s One New Starfield Item That You Should Absolutely Not Sell

Starfield’s latest update added a decent amount of new content, but players need to be extra cautious to not sell one especially useful item.

What Caused The Explosive AK Glitch?

The Mysterious Remains Unsolved

Given the display of power highlighted by MotoJimmy_151, manyStarfieldplayers were quick to enquire as to the nature of the glitch since they wanted an opportunity to gaintheir own nuclear AK-47. Unfortunately, replicating the glitch has proven difficult as the original poster doesn’t know what caused the gun to experience such a severe bug. Some suggested that MotoJimmy_151 may have had mods installed that resulted in the excessive explosive damage but they insist that they have no such add-ons.

They do concede that they do have a few mods installed but none of them focus on weapons; the only add-ons they have installed provide bonuses like infinite XP, unlimited ammo, and no carry weight restriction meaningnone of the installed mods should impact the kind of rounds the Old World Assault Rifle fires. It’s entirely possible that the add-ons may have accidentally impacted a different aspect of the game’s code but that remains pure speculation. The mystery of the nuclear AK-47 remains unsolved at the time of writing.

Whether or not the glitch is replicated,Starfield’s hyper-explosive Old World Assault Rifle is still fun to see in action. The base version of the weapon can be found on Spacersif the player is of an adequate level, orit can be purchased from Centurian Arsenal or Rowland Arms. Even without the glitch, it’s a valuable investment so explorers shouldpick one up as soon as they can.
