Summary

Despite the various changes and updates ConcernedApe has added toStardew Valleythroughout the years, there are some cheats that continue to persevere — like the item number cheat. Each item in the game has a number that corresponds with it, and changing the farmer’s name to be up to three of these codes (placed inside brackets) makes it sothese items have the chance to spawn whenever the player’s name is mentioned. This has been a great hack to stock up on some hard-to-find items for those who are OK with cheating just a little.

But Reddit userCinnabun_Sugar69420founda new piece of dialogue added to the game that calls out this cheat, specifically whentalking with Mr. Qi. After changing their name to the codes for stardrops (434) and prismatic shards (74), the strict casino owner chastised OP, saying “Easy stardrops, huh? I’m disappointed, kid. I thought you wanted to beat this game fair and square?” This hidden piece of dialogue is particularly funny when considering that Mr. Qi runs a casino.

According to the comments on the Reddit post, it seems thatMr. Qi only calls out this cheat if the player uses the Shrine of Illusionin the Wizard’s basement to change their name. Starting the game with a name made up of item codes doesn’t seem to trigger this same dialogue, though there are plenty of other ways to disappoint him baked into the game.

Every Stardrop In Stardew Valley (& How To Get Them)

Stardew Valley uses a special item to expand a player’s energy bar, and these Stardrops can be earned in a number of different ways through the game.

Mr. Qi Has Never Been A Fan Of Cheaters

He’s More Aggressive About It After The 1.6 Update

It’s no secret that Mr. Qi isn’t a fan of shortcuts. When attempting to reach level 100 in Skull Cavern,he’ll scold the player for using too many staircases(though still give them the snake milk reward). The only way to receive his approval when navigating this particularly difficult area is to use fewer than 10 staircases to reach the bottom — a feat not achieved by the faint of heart.

The 1.6 update also added a concerning cutscene with Mr. Qi. Should the player use any sort of cheat to make their way to the summit beforeachieving perfection, he’s waiting for them. The sky is filled with glitching items and boxes, and Mr. Qi confronts the player’s use of cheats, saying, “‘How can I cheat the system for my own benefit?’, you thought. Or, in layman’s terms: ‘Me me me me me me me me me me me me.’ Despicable.”

Mr. Qi’s dialogue when the player character first reaches the summit. It reads, Well, well, well… look who ‘made it’ to the summit.

Mr. Qi then attacks the playerand they wake up in Harvey’s clinic. The mustachioed bachelor will tell the farmer he had to perform an emergency surgery on them, putting them out a significant number of coins and leaving them with the shame of Mr. Qi’s parting words. He is the only character in the game who breaks the fourth wall consistently, and it’s usually to call outStardew Valleyplayers looking for shortcuts.
