Using STAB isn’t a must if you’re taking on a base-level boss like Charmander, but it may be essential if you only have one suitable counter that can use attacks matching one of its weaknesses. Trainers also need to remember Charmander’s larger number of resistances:Fairy, Grass, Ice, Bug, Fire, and Steel. Using any of these moves means Charmander will only take 63% damage compared to normal.
