One Piece Season 2 Casts Season 1’s Teased Post-Credits Villain

One Piece announces a new round of actors set to join season 2, including who will portray season 1’s ominous post-credit villain Smoker.

In The Series, Luffy’s Father, Dragon, Has A Huge Role In The Military World.

“The Beginning of The End,” as season 2, episode 1 is titled, is a direct reference to the city of Loguetown, where Dragon first appearsin the 100th chapter of the manga, and the 52nd episode of the anime. In the Loguetown story arc,Dragon is the commander of the Revolution Army and has an important role in the series from this point onward. Other news surrounding casting for season 2 ofOne Piececan further hint at Dragon being one ofmany characters to expect inOne Pieceseason 2, at least through a mention, or through more Easter eggs. Important characters Tashigi, Wapol, and Dalton have been cast, as has Captain Smoker, who will be played by Callum Kerr, according toDeadline. Season 1’s ending already teased Smoker for season 2 in the post-credits scene with a few clues, butseason 1 also made some obvious hints to set up Luffy’s father in season 2ofOne Piece.

One Piece Season 1 Already Teased Dragon’s Appearance

Small Hints To Dragon Were Made In One Piece Season 1.

Since Dragon first appears in a battle between Luffy and Smoker to save Luffy during the Loguetown arc, it seems possible that Dragon could appear then. However, Dragon’s presence is already spotted in the season 1 finale, “Worst in the East,“when Kaya (Celeste Loots) glances at a newspaper article about the Revolutionary Army, which Dragon is a part of. If the Revolutionary Army is in season 2, it seems likely that Dragon also will be, although in what role at the moment, it’s difficult to know without knowing how much ground season 2 will cover.

With Smoker joining season 2,One Piecewatchers know that season 2 could explore the Loguetown and the Alabaster arc. Since 2 will start on the Grand Line, Smoker may be looking for the group, considering the bounty Luffy has. Smoker’s journey begins with him on a mission to capture Luffy, so if season 2 includes this plot, they could implement a teaser when Dragon rescues Luffy from Smoker, which enables the writers to keep Dragon’s identity secret from Smokerand leave some mystery for season 3, but viewers will have to wait to see how this story plays out.

Don’t Expect Dragon To Get A Big Role In One Piece Season 2

Dragon’s Casting Hasn’t Even Been Announced by Netflix Or One Piece’s Creator Yet.

There is no confirmation or casting news yet about Dragon in season 2. The announcement of new characters could mean Dragon won’t have a significant role, or his role hasn’t been cast yet, but showrunner Matt Owens stated in an interview withTudumthat the writers “knew how far [they] were going to get,“in season 2. Therefore, if Dragon were joining season 2 as a main character and did have a substantial part that amounts to more than foreshadowing, his casting would likely be announced to keep viewers informed and excited about his involvement in the upcoming season.

Matt Owens also said that Dr Kureha, and her medical assistant, Chopper, who are a part of the Drum Island story, will be in season 2 ofOne Piece.

Without a structure foreachOne Pieceseason 2 episode, there’s no confirmation on how detailed each arc will be, andit’sdifficult to understand how Dragon will be integrated into the Loguetown story. As Loguetown has many important plot points, like Smoker and the Marines' introduction and Dragon saving Luffy, the writers must prioritize what stories they cover. It is clear from season one thatOne Pieceis trying to stay loyal to the source material, but by condensing the arcs, Dragon’s role in season 2 will most likely be minimal or left until season 3 to explore.
