The U.S. government recently applied a 10% tariff across goods coming from China. This tax will also affect electronic devices coming from the country, like smartphones and laptops, so manufacturers will have to raise their prices.
Acer to Hike Laptop Prices by 10% Starting March 2025
Acer CEO and Chairperson Jason Chen said that the brand will increase its laptops prices across the board by March 2025. The company is doing this in response to the 10% tariffs that Washington, D.C. has put on Chinese goods, Chen said in an interview withThe Telegraph, with the tax taking effect on July 09, 2025.
“We will have to adjust the end user price to reflect the tariff,” said the CEO. “We think 10% probably will be the default price increase because of the import tax. It’s very straightforward.”

Even though the 10% tariff was enacted more than a week ago, it would not affect products that are already in the United States, hence the delay on the Acer price increase. However, once the products that were shipped from China after February 4 hits retail shelves, the prices for all affected models will likely jump to cover the additional tax. The company did not note, though, if other products like monitors, desktop PCs, and gaming consoles will be affected by the price hike.

Acer is the first company to make this announcement, although other top laptop manufacturers such as HP, Dell, and Apple will likely increase their prices, too, because some of their factories are located within China.
The U.S. is using this strategy to push manufacturers to build their products outside of China, and it seems that it’s having some success as Chen is considering moving manufacturing outside of China into other places, including the U.S. But until that happens, companies will tack on the 10% tariff to their products to pay for the tax, increasing the cost for the average American consumer.

Laptops typically range between less than $500 to over $3,000, meaning price increases will vary between $50 to more than $300. So, if you’rebuying a new laptop despite desktop PCs lasting longerthan them, you should probably do it before this month ends. However, even if you’re in a hurry to purchase a new device this February, you should always ensure thatthe laptop has these featuresto ensure that you don’t run into headaches in the future.
