Summary
Prime Video’sSpider-Man Noirseries recruits a major Academy Award nominee for the cast of the upcomingMarvelTV show. In addition to being depicted in animated form,Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noiris also getting the live-action treatment. Sony Pictures TV is currently working with MGM+ and Prime Video on aSpider-Manlive-action series that will focus on an alternative version of the web-crawler.
Spider-Noir(formerly titledNoir) is finally expanding the cast for the superhero drama, andVarietyreports thatBrendan Gleeson has been tapped for a main role in the show. This comes shortly after the news that Lamorne Morris was cast as Robbie Robertson, making Gleeson the third person to join the series. His character has not yet been revealed. Gleeson is best known for his roles in theHarry Potterfranchise,In Bruges, andThe Banshees of Inisherin, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
Who Could Brendan Gleeson Play In Spider-Man Noir?
Gleeson Seems To Be Playing The Villain
While Gleeson’s role is being kept a secret,he is reportedly playing the villain inSpider-Noir, which leaves the door open for various options from the Marvel canon. Given thatSpider-Noirwill focus on a character whoisn’t Peter Parker, it is able to go in a different direction when pulling from Spider-Man’s rogues' gallery. If Gleeson is meant to be the main antagonist, it wouldn’t be shocking if he plays a fairly grounded villain.
Given his age and previous roles,Gleeson could potentially play an older version of Norman Osborn, who could serve as a major corporate foe. That is one of the bigger themes in theSpider-Man Noircomics. Even if he doesn’t become Green Goblin, Norman’s status as a rich business figure can be a crucial storyline in itself. Norman, through Oscorp, could also serve as a plot device for more traditional villains, as he could be funding their operations intheSpider-NoirTV show.
Since theSpider-Noircast is growing, this likely means that production is gearing up to begin sometime in the fall, following the show getting officially picked up to series. That probably means more casting announcements will be rolling out sooner rather than later, which may offer more clues about the overall plot forSpider-Noir. IfSpider-Noirstarts shooting this year, it hopefully means the show will debut sometime in 2024.
