How To Use The Speed Booster

Precision Platforming

The Speed Booster is a highly effective way of moving around themap inMetroid Dread, and it is one way toopen up a host of new paths. However, it can have a steep learning curve and many new challenges that arise from having it can be difficult to figure out. With a few tips and tricks, you may at least get the basics of using the Speed Booster to your advantage anduse it in combat.

You canclick the Left Stick to start a speed boostat any time but to actually use it; you have to have enough flat ground to run through. Otherwise, it will not engage, and you will not have the boost effects. Pressing down on the analog stick enables you tobegin storing energy to become a Shinespark.

To see an excellent example of how to use Shinespark, you can viewSamura1man’s video on YouTube. However, the basic idea is that after you store energy, press B while standing still, in a ball, or fallingto trigger the Shinespark, and then tap the Left Stick in any direction to shoot toward it. You willmove fast in a straight lineuntil you meet a wall or enemy.

you may use the Shinespark to attack enemies, which often results in one-hit KO’s for normal enemies, half-health damage for a select few, but no damage to the game’s final boss.

You can alsoengage a second Shinespark seconds later, depending on how you hit the obstacle, and this is what players will need to master to solve some of the more challenging puzzles and make it into every area. The main idea is to use this or the Speed Boost on its own tobreak blocks and open up new paths.

Where To Go After Getting The Speed Booster

Return To Artaria

The first thing to do after you have the Speed Booster is tomake it out of Dairon. You will almost immediately have to use it to exit the EMMI zone by taking out the Speed Boost Blocks. Be sure to blast any of these blocks even in this area before heading out, as there is oftengood loot hidden behind them.

You will have to continue to use the Speed Boost to get out of the area, discoverMissile Tank and Energy Tank upgradesalong the way, and eventually arrive back at a Yellow Teleporter. This allows you toreturn to Artariaand use your new ability to find more tanks and a new tool.

You will likely want to explore the areas you could not before in Artaria before continuing anywhere else. There are a fair few tanks to collect, but themain treasure you are looking for is theGrapple Beam inMetroid Dread. This can be found near the Save Station, where you can drop into the next room if you head inward and down a chute. There is amissile shield door that you can now open, and behind the door, you will find the Grapple Beam.

This is going to give you even more maneuverability and allow you to get even further. Yournext location should be Ferenia, although you will have to pass through a small portion of Dairon to get there.

However, there are many new paths and options open to you, so do not be afraid to wander off the beaten track and find a path or new location to discover. And now you have two essential tools in your kit for platforming and avoiding your enemies inMetroid Dread.
