We saw a lot of incredible products at IFA 2023, but some showcases really stood out. This year, LG showed the world a particularly unusual product: its TV briefcase, the StandbyME Go.

What Is the StandbyME Go?
Among all theweird and wonderful things at IFA 2023, the LG StandbyME Go turned many heads, and for good reason; it’s a TV within a briefcase. Pretty bizarre, right?
The metal exterior of the StandbyME Go looks like many other typical briefcases, but the contents are what stand out.
Within the briefcase is a 27-inch touchscreen TV with a 1080p LCD screen. This screen can be rotated between landscape and portrait mode and gives the user up to three hours of wireless viewing per charge. Once you’re done viewing, you can simply close up the briefcase and be on your way.
The StandbyME Go also comes with a 20W Dolby Vision Atmos speaker system and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stream content via your favorite platforms, includingNetflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Like many of its other products, LG’s StandbyME Go uses thewebOS smart TV software.
The TV itself comes with a single USB and HDMI port and a remote if you don’t fancy using the touchscreen feature.
You can also game on the StandbyME Go. The screen lets you play digital board games, which is great for nights with a loved one or friends.
The StandbyME Go weighs 30 pounds, so it’s by no means a light carry-on. But if you’ve got somewhere to put it, such as your car, or you don’t need to walk too much on your travels, this shouldn’t be much of an issue.
Should You Buy the LG StandbyME Go?
The StandbyME Go is LG’s flagship TV briefcase and also happens to be the first smart TV briefcase. But you’ve probably already asked yourself: “Can’t I just use my phone, laptop, or tablet instead?”
This is a very valid question. After all, we’ve been able to stream entertainment on the go for years, so it’s natural to assume the StandbyME Go isn’t offering anything new.
What’s important to remember here is that the StandbyME Go is a TV, not a laptop or tablet. The screen is 27 inches wide, much larger than any laptop or tablet on the market today. So, this device isn’t designed for popping in your pocket or your bag. It’s designed to be a portable entertainment system and not much else.
Regardless of this, there are a lot of people who likely will never need something like the StandbyME Go. After all, if you spend most evenings at home, why pay for a portable TV when you’ve got a bigger one in your living room?
But this still doesn’t make the StandbyME Go a futile product. If you travel regularly,spend a lot of time outdoors, or just want to try something new and innovative, there’s no reason why the StandbyME Go won’t work for you.
How Much Is the LG StandbyME Go?
The LG StandbyMe Go is currently retailing for $999.99 and is available for pre-order. Pre-orders are estimated to ship mid-October 2023, so you won’t have to wait long for your new gadget.
At the time of writing, the StandbyME Go is only available on LG’s US website, but it may not be long before it is listed on other LG online stores worldwide.
