JM DeMatteis’ long and storied career in the comics field has seen him write nearly every major character at both Marvel and DC. His bibliography is loaded with classic runs, includingThe New Defendersat Marvel. DeMatteis also pennedthe legendary “Kraven’s Last Hunt”story, considered by many to be a definitive Spider-Man story. At DC, DeMatteis, along with Kevin Maguire and Keith Giffen, retooled the Justice League in the mid-1980s, bringing the team into the modern era. Fans were invited to vote for which title moved on to get a full run. Once the books were in fans’ hands, something interesting happened: Spellbound gave an option for each book to get a second issue–and fans overwhelmingly chose this one. The result was a pleasant surprise, and speaks volumes to how compelling each ofThe DeMultiverse’sfirst issues were.
