Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern kills Barry Allen (The Flash) in DC vs Vampires #2

Matthew Rosenberg: But I will say that one of the main characters in our book going forward will be a Green Lantern. And it’s a new Green Lantern. And there may be something familiar about them besides the lantern but it’s a person who’s never been a Green Lantern before. And they may be my favorite character to write. I love them so much. And so I think if you’re a Green Lantern fan, sorry about Hal. We all miss him. But there’s hope in the universe.

Not only are they new, but Rosenberg promises that this character has “never been a Green Lantern before” and that they may be his favorite to write. Though Rosenberg doesn’t reveal the identity of this new Green Lantern, he does say there’s “hope in this universe”.

A New Green Lantern is Coming to Fight in DC’s Vampire Apocalypse

DC vs. Vampiresturned the beloved superhero universeupside down when a wave of vampirism spread throughout the hero community. Green Lantern Hal Jordan was one of the earliest to be converted to the vampires' side and he infiltrated the Justice League. When Andrew Bennett came to warn the Justice League of a vampiric conspiracy, Green Lantern killed Bennett and Zan, the Wonder Twin. He also converted other heroes, such as Wonder Woman, to become vampires like him. While Hal was crucial to the vampires' early victories, the Green Lantern finally fell when he was killed by Green Arrow.

There are plenty of people in the DC Universe who haven’t been Green Lanterns. Chances are it will be someone who hasn’t been converted into a vampire, which does make the pool of potential candidates smaller. While Black Canary became a Green Lantern in DCeased, her partner Green Arrow hasn’t, and he’s a pretty big character in the series. However, the mention of hope could imply Supergirl, who helped bring back the sun and give humanity a fighting chance. Either way,a new Green Lantern could be the secret weapon the humans needto defeat the vampires once and for all.

A Green Lantern Would Be DC’s Vampires' Worst Nightmare

The vampiric Hal Jordan showed just how much trouble a Green Lantern can be to vampires by generating light that can easily burn the undead beings. A Green Lantern fighting for humanity would be a real game-changer. While it doesn’t guarantee an outright victory, it does make things incredibly more difficult for the Vampire Queen and her minions who, by the sounds of things, are going to face quite a bit of difficulty in the upcoming war. Whoever this newGreen Lanternis, this could be the positive sign the DC Universe needs.

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1is available on August 14th from DC Comics.
