Summary

Three years since its initial announcement, Team FOLON’s massiveFallout 4conversion mod,Fallout: London, is finally available to downloadand play on PC following a surprise announcement on July 25. As its name would suggest,Fallout: Londonmoves the post-apocalyptic franchise to England, showing how another part of the world is coping after the bombs fell, featuring new factions and quests. It has also attracted voice talent such asBaldur’s Gate 3’s Asterion actor Neil Newbon,Final Fantasy 16’s Anna Demetriou, andDoctor Whoalumni Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker.

Despite Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard previously stating that he currently has no official plans to set futureFalloutgames outside of the U.S.,Fallout: Londonhas certainly shown there’s a demand for it, with many fans heralding it as being the closest they’ll get to a newFalloutinstallment any time soon and being keen to see how the series translates to a different region. Unfortunately, Team FOLON experienced some delays in production due to thesurprise drop ofFallout 4’s “next-gen” patch, which resulted in the team working with GOG.com to develop and test a launcher to roll back the game to the previous version to ensureFallout: Londoncould be released closer to its original intended date.

WhileFallout: Londonis available on PC via GOG and Steam copies ofFallout 4that have been rolled back to an older version, it is not playable withcopies purchased through the Epic Games Storedue to the launcher not supporting update rollbacks. Team Folon has indicated that it still plans to offer a version of the mod updated for next-genFallout 4at some point further down the line, which will presumably work with Epic Games Store copies.

How To Install (& Play) Fallout: London

It can be tricky to figure out how to play and install the new Fallout: London mod that will take you to the British Wastelands for you to explore.

Will Fallout: London Come To Consoles?

There Are Currently No Plans For A Console Release

WithFallout: London’s sheer scale essentially making it a new - albeit unofficial -Falloutgame, many fans of the franchise are probably wondering when they can get their hands on it if they don’t play on PC. After all, many Bethesda titles, includingFallout 4, have plenty of mods available through the official Creations Club on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to ensure all players get to experience community content and expand upon Bethesda’s original vision with new weapons, missions, attire and more.

Unfortunately, theFallout: Londonwebsite states there are no current plans to release the full conversion mod on Xbox and PlayStation. It has been noted that “specific standalone items may be released separately,” and Team FOLON has granted theFallout 4community permission to convert these standalone items to other platforms.

Could Fallout: London Ever Come To Consoles?

One Console Release Is Less Likely

While this news may disappoint some console players, it is understandable inFallout: London’s current state as it can’t run on the newer versions ofFallout 4,and much like with Epic Games Store, neither PlayStation nor Xbox consoles have a working method or feature that could help players rollback to a pre-updated version of the game. What happens once Team FOLON’s next-gen compatible version ofFallout: Londonis released is yet to be seen, but one of the two consoles is far less likely to get this than the other.

Theoretically, should Team FOLON ever look to releaseFallout: Londonon consoles,it would be more likely to come to Xbox as Microsoft’s console has always notably featured moremods through the Creation Club. This isn’t due to modders favoring the platform over PlayStation but rather because of the restrictions Sony has in place for the PS4 and PS5 versions of Bethesda games.

While Sony allows free community-created mods forFallout 4onto the PS4 and PS5 after they have already been released on other platforms, it doesn’t allow any “External Assets.” This includes the likes of new or altered models, be it for weapons, armor, body, etc., consisting of any shape that doesn’t already exist in the game files, new snap points, color patterns, and more. There is also a restriction on new sound files, scripts, and a limitation on the kind of file types that can be used.

Considering how much ofFallout: Londonis new content, with many specifically created assets and an entirely new storyline featuring new dialogue and characters,it’s highly unlikely that Team FOLON could ever bring it to PlayStation, even if the team wanted to.Of course, for now, this is entirely theoretical as the team has stated there aren’t any plans forFallout: Londonoutside of PC, and considering what a journey it’s been for the team to get it to this point, honestly, who can blame them for wanting to just celebrate the mod’s successful launch for a bit?
