Contains spoilers for Iron Man (2024) #1!Iron Man’shad many suits destroyed over the years, but his latest defeat has seen himlose every single one, to a weakness that he really should have been more careful about. This new threat is going to force Tony Stark to think on his feet like never before, as he seeks to defeat an enemy that controls everything he’s ever built thus far.
InIron Man (2024)#1 – written by Spencer Ackerman, with art by Julius Ohta – Tony Stark suffers a devastating loss, asall his suits are infected by a computer virus, one that is also magical, and therefore undetectable.

Tony is fighting a war on multiple fronts,as evil conglomerate Roxxonwipes out his suits, while simultaneously launching a hostile takeover of Stark Industries, locking Tony out of his usual resources. For all his technological genius, Tony still has a massive weakness against magic, especially if he is caught unaware by it, which is precisely what happens in the issue.
Tony Stark’s Enemies Exploit His Weakness To Magic, Costing him Every Iron Man suit He’s Ever Built
Iron Man (2024)#1 – Written By Spencer Ackerman; Art By Julius Ohta; Color By Alex Sinclair; Lettering By Joe Caramagna
The start of Spencer Ackerman’s newIron Manseries heavily builds on the precedingInvincible Iron Man (2022),by writer Gerry Duggan and (predominantly) artist Juan Frigeri, which featured Tony building anew suit of anti-magic armorout of the miracle metal Mysterium. Unfortunately for Tony, he leaves his suit in a warehouse which been seized in Roxxon’s takeover, leaving him with protection against Roxxon’s malicious virus. This is the catalyst for Tony buildinghis new steampunk-inspired outfit, which has no connectionsto his previous suits, since all his old firmware is practically useless.
The idea of a magic computer virus is an extension of Roxxon’s whole ethos.

Roxxon’s involvement in this plot is perfect, because Roxxon Corp mixes magic with real life mundane evil. Their former CEO Dario Agger is literally a Minotaur, and when he died, Roxxon simply resurrected him; the company is said to have a good working relationship with hell itself. The idea of a magic computer virus is an extension of Roxxon’s whole ethos. It is corporate warfare mixed with a touch of magic in a way that lays bare that the nastiness of capitalism still exists in the Marvel Universe, in an unsubtle, but very fun, way.
This Low Moment For Iron Man Could Be The Turning Point That Forces Tony Stark To Learn Magic Himself
Iron Man#1 – Available Now From Marvel Comics
The big question is whether Tony is going to fight fire with fire. Justine Hammer, Roxxon’s representative, gloats inIron Man#1 that Tony should really have learned magic at some point, hinting that maybe he’s about to do exactly that. Tony’s new armor is very medieval looking, and maybe that’s a subtle signal that he’ll be delving into magic. From Doctor Strange to the Scarlet Witch, it’s not like Tony lacks magical friends and allies; it is just whetherIron Manis really willing to change up his whole approach to superherodom to defeat Roxxon that is the question.
