Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for the Six of Crows duology, as well as the King of Scars books.

Summary

TheSix of Crowsduology is one of the strongest additions to the Grishaverse, andI’m hopeful Leigh Bardugo will write a third book one day — but I hope it doesn’t revive a central conflict from the previous two. Bardugo is taking a break from the Grishaverse after publishingRule of Wolvesin 2021, with the author moving ontoprojects likeThe Familiarand thenextNinth Housebook. Bardugo hasn’t ruled out the possibility of anotherSix of Crowssequel, however, tellingColliderthat a third book is “a big someday.”

Although a thirdSix of Crowsbook is “a maybe” for the author, she revealed that she has an idea of what it could cover. Its potential storyline remains under wraps, but there are several different directions a sequel could go in afterCrooked Kingdomand theKing of Scarsduology. Only time will tell if Bardugo returns to Ketterdam and the Crows. If she does, there’s one storyline I’m hoping shedoesn’tresurrect — even if the ending ofCrooked Kingdomleaves the door open to do so.

If Leigh Bardugo Writes Another Six Of Crows Book, I Hope It Ignores Pekka Rollins

The Villain Can Technically Return In A Crooked Kingdom Sequel

After Kaz enacts his revenge inCrooked Kingdom,Pekka Rollins and his family flee Ketterdam — andthis means he can return and continue his feud with Kaz in a thirdSix of Crowsbook. I’m certain someone like Pekka Rollins would want to get back at Kaz for besting him. However, I really hope Bardugo doesn’t revive their enmity if she writes a sequel toCrooked Kingdom. In fact, the author should ignore theSix of Crowsvillain altogether. He can remain on the outskirts of Ketterdam, as there are undoubtedly more interesting threads to explore afterCrooked Kingdom.

I really hope Bardugo doesn’t revive Kaz and Pekka’s enmity if she writes a sequel toCrooked Kingdom.

I fully believe any futureSix of Crowsbooksshould focus on Inej, who has the most interesting conclusion in the duology. Her ending and appearance inRule of Wolvesperfectly set the stage for new adventures in the Grishaverse. Of course, Kaz’s future is also pretty open-ended after recent Grishaverse books.A thirdSix of Crowsbook must return to the Crows' leader, but it would benefit from giving him a new storyline that doesn’t connect to his conflict with Pekka.

Why A Third Six Of Crows Book Shouldn’t Revive Kaz & Pekka’s Conflict

Doing So Would Be Tiresome & Not Reveal Anything New About The Characters

There are several reasons a thirdSix of Crowsbook shouldn’t return to the conflict between Kaz and Pekka, the most obvious being that readers will grow tired of this storyline. Kaz spendsSix of CrowsandCrooked Kingdomdwelling on Pekka’s actions, and he successfully gets revenge during the latter. There’s no reason to drag out this plot any further, and doing so will feel repetitive and tiresome. On top of that, returning to this story in aCrooked Kingdomsequel wouldn’t tell us anything newabout these characters.

I’m satisfied with the way Kaz avenges his brother, and I don’t believe I’ll gain anything from seeing another face-off between the Crows' leader and his nemesis. However, there are several gangs and enemies I’d like Bardugo to explore, anddoing so would keep anotherSix of Crowsbook fresh and interesting. Bardugo’s world is vast, so there’s really no reason to limit Kaz’s story to one villain.Six of CrowsandCrooked Kingdomeven introduce other possible threats as Kaz pursues Pekka.

There Are Other Gangs & Enemies Leigh Bardugo Could Explore In A Sequel

It would be a waste to continue Pekka Rollins' story in a thirdSix of Crowsbook, especially whenthere are so many other interesting elements of the Crows' world to explore. With Kaz still heading the Dregs, there are other gangs and leaders he could clash with during a future sequel. The Black Tips and Razorgulls are underutilized in the first two books, and even the Dime Lions could cause new problems with Pekka gone. There’s also the Council of Tides, which Kaz has a history with afterCrooked Kingdom.

The Perfect Six Of Crows Replacement Book Came Out 7 Years Ago

Anyone who enjoyed Six of Crows will fall right into another underrated fantasy book, as the story has a lot in common with Leigh Bardugo’s.

Kaz’s dealings with Nikolai could also come into play, as he steals for Nikolai and Zoya during theKing of Scarsduology. This could come back to haunt Kaz in some way, pitting him against the wronged parties. Finally, Inej’s storyline inSix of Crowsmakes a solid argument for taking on slavers and the businesses that fund them.King of Scarsreveals she’s done a good job of this already, but it would be fascinating to see her and Kaz continue it firsthand. Perhaps a thirdSix of Crowsbook will give us the opportunity to. I certainly hope so.
