Summary

After a coy initial teaser that carefully avoided revealing too many story details, the subsequent trailers forAlien: Romulushave been freely giving away all the movie’s biggest scares. Set between the events ofAlienandAliens,Alien: Romuluswill see a group of unsuspecting young space colonists investigating an old space station and coming face-to-face with the most horrifying being in the universe. Director Fede Álvarez is bringing the franchise back to its horror roots after a couple of hard sci-fi entries.

As a lifelongAlienfan, I’m really excited about the latest installment in the series. I really enjoyed Álvarez’s home invasion thrillerDon’t Breatheand his blood-soakedEvil Deadremake, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he does with the iconography of theAlienfranchise. But based on how many plot spoilers have appeared in the film’s trailers,it seems as though Disney’s marketing team is bent on ruiningAlien: Romulusfor everyonebefore it arrives in theaters on June 15, 2025.

Alien: Romulus' Final Trailer Shows Almost The Entire Chestburster Scene

The trailers haven’t left any room for surprise in the chestburster scene

The recently releasedfinal trailer forAlien: Romulusshows pretty much the entire chestburster scene. The earlier trailers had teased a new spin on the familiar chestburster, with the victim being able to see the alien baby wriggling around through their skin before it busted out. But those teases still left something to the audience’s imagination, and left some of the terror of the scene unspoiled. After the final trailer,we know exactly what to expect from what promises to be the movie’s scariest sequence.

Imagine if Ridley Scott’s originalAlienmovie had included the chestburster scene in its trailers. It wouldn’t have earned its reputation as one of the most iconic moments in horror movie history, because it wouldn’t have taken audiences by surprise. It’s become an industry-wide issue that trailers are giving away too much these days, but it seems particularly bad inAlien: Romulus’ case. I want to enjoy at least one surprise in the movie itself.

The previous trailers haven’t just spoiled plot elements;theAlien: Romulustrailers have spoiled specific character deaths. Aileen Wu’s Navarro and Spike Fearn’s Bjorn are both seen being attacked by facehuggers in theAlien: Romulustrailers, so we already know they’re doomed. The trailers are simply giving away too much, especially for a horror movie that relies on the element of surprise.Alien: Romulusis looking like it’ll be a great entry in theAlienfranchise, but Disney needs to leave a few surprises unspoiled.
