Summary
Who would have guessed that dark Kermit in theEvil Kermit memewould be the perfect visual for how I consider two decisions in my mind? Growing up, I was never the biggestMuppets-head. I associated Jim Henson’s Muppets withSesame Streetand, beyondElmo’s World, I wasn’t even all that interested in that show. So I associated Muppets with kids' stuff. Little did I know thatJim Henson was the same guy who made the terrifyingDark Crystal. His Muppets could be plenty mature, but it took me until I was a little older to really appreciate that.
I think that it was actuallyThe Muppetmemes that made me take another look atThe Muppets, particularlythe many Kermit the Frog memes. Kermit sipping iced tea, Kermit lying on the ground, Kermit with his mouth scrunched up in a grimace, they all kill me. There’s something aboutthe frog’s bemused, intelligent face that makes him the perfect straight man. He’s not creepy like some Muppets, and he’s not overly cute. It’s weird to say, but he seems like a Muppet you could hang out with. Maybe that’s why the Evil Kermit meme hits so close to home.

Every Muppets Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
With eight Muppet movies released in the past few decades depicting all manner of stories, which one of Jim Henson’s offerings ranks the highest?
Of Course The Evil Kermit Meme Started With A Fluffy Dog
The Meme Comes From A Scene In Muppets Most Wanted
The meme comes from a scene inMuppets Most Wantedwhere Kermit confronts a dark Kermit named “Constantine” wearing a hood. The first use of the meme came from Twitter user@aaannnnyyyyaaaawho posted the image (which has since been deleted) on November 6th, 2016, with the caption (viaKnowYourMeme):
“me: sees a fluffy dog / me to me: steal him”

I’ve got to say, that’s not the joke I would have guessed for the very first “Evil Kermit” meme, but it works. What do I know anyway, because that meme blew up,gaining over 31,800 likes and 22,500 retweets. The idea of the meme is that the “normal” Kermit represents the good side of your consciousness, while the hooded dark Kermit represents the “evil” side. Usually, the meme involves one line that says something innocuous and/or nice; the next line is the evil subconscious thought that comes after. It’s the perfect visual representation of intrusive thoughts.

Evil Kermit Allows Me To Embrace My Dark Side In The Most Wholesome Way Possible
Dark Kermit Has A Way Of Saying Exactly What I’m Thinking
These Evil Kermit memes depict my exact thought processes at times.I really enjoy the ones that consider the little everyday battles I have with myself, like this one about wanting to go to sleep but also wanting to watch more TV,
Or this one that makes me question why I ever choose to wear cool innerwear when it’s cold out,

I also enjoy the super absurd Evil Kermit variations like this one,
See, not everything dark Kermit says is something you would actually do. That’s why they’re intrusive thoughts. Yes, I understand that the leave-in conditioner does not need to be left in overnight for it to work, but when I hear the words “leave-in”, part of me wonders… That’s why these memes are so nice. They acknowledge the strange and weird thoughts that go through everyone’s head. There’s camaraderie in theEvil Kermit meme.

No, I would never steal someone’s fluffy dog. However, when I see a particularly cute pooch in the park, I will admit that for a brief moment, the ridiculous vision of me fleeing with the dog wrapped up in my jacket does flash across my brain. It wouldn’t happen, but dark Kermit is always whispering.
InMuppets Most Wanted, Constantine uses his status as Kermit’s doppelgänger to steal the Crown Jewels of England. The only visual difference between the two Muppets is a mole on Constantine’s face.
