Apple released the StandBy mode feature in 2023, allowing your iPhone to work like a digital desk clock while wireless charging in landscape mode. Current Android phones don’t have anything similar built in just yet, but, as they say, there’s an app for everything.

Install the StandBy Mode Pro on Your Device

To get theiPhone StandBy Modefeature on your Android phone, you need to download an app from the Google Play Store. StandBy Mode Pro is free, although it comes with some in-app purchases to unlock premium features.

While some older Android phones like the Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ had a feature called Google Daydream, which worked similarly to Standby. Google has since discontinued Daydream support on newer Android phones. Some apps still exist that offer similar functionality, though, and third-party operating systems may feature a Daydream-like system.

I’ve tested the app on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and my wife’s Vivo X90 Pro, and it works well on both devices.

Once you install it on your phone, you can use it as a standby screen while charging—even when using wired charging. Note that you will need to grant some special permissions to the app to ensure that it works as intended.

Lifetime purchase for StandBy Mode Pro

However, aside from that, you’re good to go without needing to pay for anything.

Basic StandBy Features You Get for Free

If all you want to see on your phone when it’s charging is an analog clock and the calendar, then the basic features of the StandBy Mode Pro are all you need.

It automatically turns on when you charge your phone, and it will let you show a clock, select photos, your calendar, your favorite media player, or even play some ofour favorite 24/7 YouTube radio stations.

The free version also has other features like a sleep timer, advanced burn-in protection, and the ability to turn on Focus Mode so you’re not disturbed while the phone is charging.

You can even use the app to put your phone in standby mode while it’s not charging by launching it manually.

Should You Pay to Unlock Premium Features?

The app also offers premium features if you tap theGo Premiumlogo. I purchased it for around $3.50 at the time of writing, so it’s quite affordable.

For that price, I received the ability to use it in Portrait Mode, which gives the phone more options over the iPhone. It also unlocks several other clock designs and a ton of other widgets, increasing its usefulness.

I also appreciated that it was a one-time purchase instead of a subscription, which other developers prefer. Of course, you really don’t need to purchase the Premium features to make the app useful.

The asking price is low enough that I thought it was worth it as a thank-you to the developer. Nevertheless, if you don’t want to spend a dime, you’ll get what you want with just the free version of StandBy Mode Pro.

If you’ve wanted the iPhone’s Standby mode on your Android phone, this is by far one of the easiest ways to achieve it.
