If your Amazon Echo device is flashing yellow, you may be confused about why it is. There are a few reasons why your Echo is flashing a yellow light, and there’s a sure-fire way to stop this from happening.
What Does a Flashing Yellow Light Mean on an Echo?
Your Echo device’s yellow flashing light can indicate one or more of the following:
Standard missed calls, SMS texts, or social media DMs will not trigger a yellow flash on your Alexa device. Rather, a missed or unread communication from an Alexa contact will cause this.

An Alexa contact is someone who also owns an Echo device. If, for example, you and your friend both have an Echo device and your friend texts you via the Alexa app, your Echo device’s ring light will make a sound and flash yellow. Your Echo won’t stop flashing yellow until the message has been read within the Alexa app.
The same goes for reminders. Only missed Alexa app reminders will cause a yellow flashing light, not a reminder from any other app.
If you don’t have your phone to hand, you can ask Alexa to tell you what notifications you have. Something like “Alexa, what are my notifications?” or “Alexa, read me my unread messages” will cause Alexa to inform you of what notifications you haven’t checked yet. Once Alexa is done with this, the yellow flashing light will stop.

How to Disable Your Echo’s Yellow Flashing Light
If you find your Echo device’s yellow light to be irritating and have no need to be notified of things in this way, you can disable the function in the Alexa smartphone app via a few different methods.
There is no “turn off” option for your communication (Alexa phone and text) notifications, but there is a way you may get around them. Firstly, you can turn your Echo device on Do Not Disturb mode. To do this, head into your Alexa app and go to Devices. Then, select the Echo device you want to alter.
Here, you’ll see a moon symbol on the right-hand side of the screen. If you tap this and the icon turns purple, you now haveDo Not Disturb modeenabled.
However, if you prefer to receive notifications like Amazon order updates while avoiding call and text alerts, there’s a solution. There is a way to stop call and text notifications while still keeping other notifications active.
You can do this by altering your contact access in your communication settings, meaning only your favorite contacts can get in touch with you via Alexa. Alexa will look at which contacts you call most frequently on your phone and then set those numbers as your favorites.
If you click on any of your favorite contacts in your Alexa contact list (which you’re able to access via theCommunicatetab), you’ll see aRemove from Favoritesoption.
By simply tapping on this, the contact in question will be removed from your favorites. By removing all contacts from your favorites and having limited communication settings enabled, no one will be able to contact you via the Alexa app, meaning you won’t get any yellow flashing lights for calls or texts.
To disable Amazon shopping notifications, open your Alexa app, and head toMore > Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping.
Here, you can toggle notifications for delivery and return updates on or off. You can also enable or disable alerts for deal recommendations, reorder recommendations, review requests, and answers to product questions.
To disable reminder notifications, you’re better off not setting Alexa reminders. After all, the purpose of a reminder is to remind you of something, and Alexa cannot do this if it cannot alert you.
However, you can head toMore > Settings > Device settings > Remindersto customize your reminder notification settings. For instance, you can set the alert volume, disable reminder text messages, or disable reminder follow-ups.

It’s irritating to have your Echo’s light flashing in the corner of your eye, but this doesn’t have to be a permanent issue. Using a few different methods and tweaks, you can ensure your Echo’s yellow light stops flashing for good.
