With AI permeating every area of creativity, people of all skill levels can generate art and media with minimal effort. Clipchamp makes video editing easy by letting AI take the reins. Here’s how to make an AI video with Clipchamp.
What Is Clipchamp?
If this is the first time you’ve heard of Clipchamp, it’s Microsoft’s official video editor. You’ll likely find it pre-installed on a Windows 10 or 11 PC; if it’s missing, you can visit theClipchamp download pageand grab it from there. If you’re not on Windows, you can still use theClipchamp online editor.
Clipchamp didn’t start its life as an AI app. Beforehand, it was a video editor aimed at replacing the ancient Windows Movie Maker, and you canuse Clipchamp to create cool videos.

However, Clipchamp received an update that lets you generate videos with AI. All you need to do is feed it your media, and it’ll do the hard work for you.
How to Make an AI-Generated Video With Clipchamp
If you want to get started making an AI-generated video with Clipchamp, you can use either the desktop or online version. The steps are the same between the two of them, so it doesn’t matter which you use for this tutorial.
1. Gather Your Media Files
Before you get started, you’ll need to find all the media files you want to add to your video. you may include both videos and pictures in your project. It’s a good idea to gather all your files in one folder for easy access.
Once you’re ready to go, open Clipchamp and click onCreate a video with AI.

Clipchamp will now ask you for a video title. This will be used for your video’s intro card, so give it a title suitable for your viewers (for example, “My trip to Spain”).
Below the name, you can add the media you want to use in your video. If you have all your media in one folder, you can select them all and drag them into the upload window. Once all your files are uploaded, clickGet started.

2. Set a Tone for the Video
Once all your media is added to Clipchamp, you’ll move on to theStylesection. In this phase, you’re telling the AI what mood you want your video to represent. Holiday and family videos will work best with a fun-loving theme, while professional videos will suit more serious themes.
Clipchamp will show you a theme card on the left of the window. The tags at the bottom-left of the theme card describe what the theme represents, and the colors at the bottom right show you the primary colors used in the theme.

If the theme card matches the mood you want in your video, click thethumbs upicon. Otherwise, click thethumbs downicon. Clipchamp will then give you another theme card, and the process will continue until Clipchamp knows what kind of mood you’d like for your video. If you’re feeling lost, you can clickChoose for meto have Clipchamp automatically pick the theme for you.
Once you’ve selected the themes you want, Clipchamp will ask you if you want your video to be landscape or portrait. Landscape is best for showing on TVs, computer monitors, and uploading your video to a website like YouTube. Portrait is best if you plan toupload your video to YouTube Shortsor TikTok.

You can also select the length of your video. If you want it to be a short and snappy video, selectLess than 30 seconds. Otherwise, clickFull length.
Next is theExportwindow. Here, you can select a song and a font that suits the themes you picked earlier. You can press thePlaybutton on the video player on the right to see what your video will look like with your chosen song and font.
If you like what you see, clickExportto make it a video. If you want to make tweaks to your video, clickEdit in timeline.
How to Edit an AI-Generated Video in Clipchamp
Clipchamp will do its best to make a good video. However, it won’t be perfect, and there’s a good chance that it will make a strange decision when arranging your media into a video. If something looks weird in the final cut, you may edit the timeline and fine-tune your video.
1. Change the Title Card
If the title card isn’t to your liking, click on it on the timeline, then clickTextat the top-right. This will let you change what it says, select a new font, and adjust its size.
2. Adjust the Length of Media
Sometimes Clipchamp will show a piece of media for only a second of screen time before moving on, and sometimes it will hang onto one video or picture for too long. If Clipchamp’s timing is a bit off, you can adjust the clip timing yourself.
To adjust a clip, click on it on the timeline. Then, grab one of the edges and drag it left or right to extend or shorten the clip.
You’ll notice that Clipchamp sometimes adds two identical video tracks featuring the same piece of media. The second track is used to create a reflection effect that appears under the active video or image. Make sure you align these reflections when adjusting your media, or the video will look very strange. You can also delete the reflections if they’re too much of a hassle.
3. Change the Transition Styles and Effects
To adjust the time it takes for a photo or video to fade in and out, select it, then clickFadeon the right. Adjust the sliders here to create the perfect fade duration.
With the media still selected, you can also tweak other elements on the right-hand sidebar.Filterslets you adjust the colors to different styles, andEffectslets you play with some visually interesting styles. You can also use theSpeedoption on videos to adjust its playback.
Once you’re done editing, clickExportat the top-right to make your video.
While Clipchamp’s AI-powered video editor is by no means perfect, it’s still a quick and easy way tocreate videos onlineor on Windows, especially if you have a lot of photos or videos to go through. The next time you’re staring at a blank video editing track wondering where to start, give Clipchamp’s AI a try.
