The Boys Season 4 Retconned The Reason Kimiko Couldn’t Talk

The Original Reason Turned Out To Be Wrong

The Boysseason 4 made some interesting changes to Kimiko’s backstory, with itretconning the reason that Kimiko can’t talk. The Boysseason 2 originally explained thatKimiko stopped talking after witnessing the death of her motherat the hands of the Shining Light Liberation Army. Her mother’s brutal murder scarred Kimiko for life, with the trauma preventing Kimiko from talking for the rest of her time inThe Boys.

The original explanation was speculation from Kimiko’s brother.

However, an alternate version of why Kimiko can’t talk was revealed inThe Boysseason 4, with Kimiko explaining the reason herself. As a child, Kimiko was forced to fight against another young girl by the Shining Light. Their overseer explained that whichever girl cried out in pain first would be killed, causing Kimiko’s silence to be a life-or-death situation. Although Kimiko ended up winning the fight, the trauma from it caused her to remain silent for the rest of her life, with her not talking again until she cried out for Frenchie in the season 4 finale.

If You Thought Homelander Was A Good Dad, The Boys Strongly Disagrees

The Boys has previously suggested that Homelander’s parenting was his sole redeeming feature, but a season 4, episode 7 scene confirms otherwise.

Kimiko Should Talk Fully In The Boys Season 5

The Boys Can’t Go Back

Now thatThe Boysseason 4 has broken the barrier of Kimiko speaking, she should talk fully inThe Boysseason 5. Kimiko has always been one of the most interesting characters inThe Boys, and the decision to allow her to fully speak in season 5 would open up so many more paths to develop her character. It would be strange to have her go back to silence after she spoke in the season 4 finale, meaning thatThe Boyscan’t put that cat back in the bag.

Having Kimiko talk inThe Boysseason 5 makes perfect sense based on the character’s previous arcs. The Boysseason 3 saw Kimiko want to speak so badly that an entire metaphorical musical number took place, while season 4 saw her go to therapy over her verbal struggles. Now that Kimiko has faced her past and taken down the Shining Light Liberation Army,The Boysseason 5 should have her continue to overcome her trauma by allowing her to speak once again.
