Game of Thronesauthor George R. R. Martin shares a positive review forMy Lady Janeas fans push for season 2. Hitting Prime Video in June of this year, the fantasy romancereimagines the life of realhistorical figure Lady Jane Grey(Emily Bader), following her as she is unexpectedly crowned queen in an alternate version of 16th-century England. My Lady Janeearned positive reviews, but Prime Video canceled the show after season 1, leading to an outcry from audiences and petitions for season 2.
On his “Not A Blog” blog,Martinnow shares his thoughts onMy Lady Jane, revealing that he watched and enjoyed the Prime Video show. The author also recalls working with showrunner Meredith Glynn, who he reveals was once attached to a now-shelvedGame of Thronesspinoff. While some may have comparedMy Lady Janeto Netflix’sBridgerton,Martin says that the series actually reminds him of Hulu’s acclaimed series,The Great, calling it “clever and original.” Read an excerpt from Martin’s blog below:

Speaking of television shows, I have always loved alternate history and Jane Grey, England’s nine-days queen, has always fascinated me. Small wonder, then, that I really enjoyed MY LADY JANE, a clever and original historical fantasy on Amazon Prime, set in an England full of witches and shapechangers, where Jane lasts more than nine days.
Meredith Glynn is one of the showrunners. I had the pleasure of working with her on one of the GAME OF THRONES spinoffs that HBO shelved a few years back, and knowing her talents, it did not surprise me that MY LADY JANE was so much fun. Witty and original, it reminded me a bit of THE GREAT, a show I loved. Alas, THE GREAT is gone, and it appears MY LADY JANE is too. Amazon did not renew it for a second season.

What Martin’s My Lady Jane Comments Mean For The Show
Prime Video Has Faced A Fan Outcry
My Lady Janecurrently enjoys an impressive 95% critics' score onRotten Tomatoes, and the audience score, now called the Popcornmeter, is similarly strong at 90%. The show was widely praised for its strong storytelling and humor, and for generally feeling unique and like something fresh in a very crowded entertainment landscape. The series ascends beyond being Prime Video’s version ofBridgerton, but the viewership was evidently not strong enough to justify makingMy Lady Janeseason 2.
Bridgertonremains wildly popular for Netflix and has now run for 3 seasons. Season 4 is confirmed to be on the way.

Despite only running for eight episodes,My Lady Janedeveloped a passionate fan following, and apetition on Change.org for season 2has now amassed more than 67,000 signatures. Martin’s new blog post could actually encourage more people to check out the show. Historically, fan campaigns have had success with lengthening a show’s run, as has been seen with series likeWarrior Nun, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, andCommunity. Prime Video has yet to acknowledge the fan campaign, buta strong enough audience response does have the potential to have an impact.
Our Take On Martin’s My Lady Jane Praise
Will The Show Continue?
Martin’s seal of approval is a positive step forward for those hoping for moreMy Lady Jane. ThroughGame of Thrones, his following has only grown, and his opinions on pop culture hold weight. That being said, there are many instances of fan campaigns for show continuations falling on deaf ears, meaning theMy Lady Janeseason 1 finalemight indeed be the end of the road.
11 Movies & Shows Saved After Fan Campaigns
Fan interest has played a major role in TV shows and movies' success, to the point that several projects have been saved from cancelation altogether.
If the fantasy romance does continue, it may not also be a proper season 2. Instead of an eight-episode season,My Lady Janecould be granted a three-episode renewal or perhaps a movie, allowing Prime Video to satisfy audience demand and wrap up Jane’s story without the financial commitment of doing a full season 2. Nothing has been announced aboutMy Lady Jane’s continuation, however, and it’s very possible that nothing will be, but having one of the most widely known fantasy authors of a generation praise the show further speaks to the mark it’s making on viewers.
