Deadpool & Wolverinefeatures several variants of the former hero, from those versed inMarvelComics lore to those created for the movie. As expected,Deadpool & Wolverinedeals with the concept of the multiverse heavily. The appearance ofDeadpool & Wolverine’s Paradoxinvolves the TVA in the duo’s lives, leading to a multiversal adventure filled with cameos, surprise inclusions, and teases for thelist of upcoming Marvel movies.

As was teased in the film’s trailers,Deadpool & Wolverinewould feature an increased dosage of the former. Despite being a movie that is split between Wade Wilson and Wolverine equally, variants of Deadpool were confirmed to appear inDeadpool & Wolverine’s cast. Although the story includes variants of other major heroes, including Wolverine himself in some surprising cameos,Deadpool & Wolverine’s endingdelivers on its promise of including Wade Wilson variants in a fantastic action sequence that ranks among the MCU’s best.

18Original Deadpool

Played By Ryan Reynolds

Naturally, the most prominent variant of Deadpool to appear inDeadpool & Wolverineis the titular version. This version hails from Earth-10005, the official multiversal designation forFox’sX-Menmovie timeline, and picks up from the ending ofDeadpool 2. After establishing his usage of Cable’s time machine, which even resulted in him traveling to Earth-616 in an attempt to join the Avengers,Deadpool & Wolverineshows Wade as a car salesman, officially retired from superhero work as Deadpool.

When the TVA appears and informs Deadpool of a threat to his timeline, the hero springs back into action. Of course, this variant of Deadpool gets the most screentime as the lead of the film, from his adventure to find a variant of Logan who can help him to his battles in the Void against the forces of Cassandra Nova. By the time of the film’s ending, Deadpool encounters several other versions of himself, some more friendly than others.

The Deadpool variant with the second-most amount of screentime inDeadpool & Wolverineis arguably Dogpool, a.k.a. Mary Poppins. This character first appears in the Void as a companion of another Deadpool variant but takes a liking to the original Deadpool. Throughout the film,Dogpool often reappears as someone who wants to be around the titular duo of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Is Deadpool & Wolverine the best R-rated superhero movie of all time?

Deadpool & Wolverine has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, cementing its status within that category. That said, there is a question still standing, as it faces competition for the title of the best R-rated superhero film. I believe that Deadpool & Wolverine is easily the best film out of the mutant’s franchise, ruling out the other Deadpool movies. That said, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad reached similar levels of comedy, action, and emotion without multiverse elements. While I hold the two movies in high regard, Hugh Jackman’s emotional Logan might still be the best R-rated superhero movie.

In the final act, Dogpool appears alongside the rest of the Deadpool Corps. Dogpool races towards Deadpool and Wolverine before they can be attacked by the other variants, being hidden away before the ensuing fight. Dogpool is based on the same variant of the character from Marvel Comics, though as a much different type of dog.

16Nicepool

Early in the production ofDeadpool & Wolverine, set photos revealed an image of Ryan Reynolds filming as a long-haired variant of Deadpool. Many took to calling this variant a samurai version of Deadpool, butDeadpool & Wolverinedubs him Nicepool. This variant of the character is the initial owner of Dogpool and helps the original Deadpool and Wolverine on their adventure through the Void.

Like Dogpool, Nicepool’s arrival in the final act ofDeadpool & Wolverineprecedes the appearance of the Deadpool Corps.Unfortunately, Nicepool does not possess the same powers as other variants and cannot regenerate, leading him to a tragically hilarious death scene shortly after one of the film’s best meta jokes. Nicepool’s legacy lives on, however, when the original Deadpool takes up his weapons and avenges his death.

15Lady Deadpool

Played By Blake Lively

While the Deadpool Corps did not outwardly proclaim a leader, the variant who led them through the portal in the finale ofDeadpool & Wolverinewas Lady Deadpool. Lady Deadpool is another popular variant of the character from Marvel Comics and was teased in several of the film’s trailers. The teases caused a great deal of speculation, with theories about who would play the female version of the character ranging from Ryan Reynolds in a wig to Taylor Swift.

While the character was never unmasked, Lively provided the voice work for the character and was likely the one under the suit…

Another popular name raised for Lady Deadpool was Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds' wife. As it turns out, Lively portrayed Lady Deadpool inDeadpool & Wolverine. While the character was never unmasked, Lively provided the voice work for the character.

Christian Bettridge donned the suit for the role, continuing her ties to the MCU following her appearance as a stunt performer inThe Marvels. Bettridge was also a stunt double for Wonder Woman in both of the hero’s DCEU movies, and served as a stunt performer inJustice League, giving her a considerable superhero background. On Instagram, Christian Bettridge discussed her time as Lady Deadpool forDeadpool & Wolverine, thanking those who helped her - including Reynolds, Lively, and director Shawn Levy - and stating, “it’s not lost on me how special it was to don this suit.”

Kidpool glaring in Deadpool & Wolverine

Lady Deadpool is slightly different from other variants in that she has two mini machine guns as her primary weapons rather than dual pistols. This appears to be in part a nod to her place as the seeming de facto leader of the Deadpool Corps inDeadpool & Wolverine, but could also simply be in reference to how many different weapons the character has been shown with throughout her Marvel comic history.

14Kidpool

Played By Inez Reynolds

Kidpool is another Marvel Comics variant of the Deadpool Corps that was heavily theorized to appear in the film. Many assumed that Walker Scobell would portray this variant, given his prior work with director Shawn Levy inThe Adam Project. In this film, Scobell played a younger version of Ryan Reynolds, leading many to believe he was perfect for the role of Kidpool.

However, Scobell did not portray Kidpool inDeadpool & Wolverine.Instead, that honor went to Inez Reynolds, the daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.Kidpool, like Lady Deadpool, remained masked in the finale of the movie, instead being reduced to one line of dialogue. However, the dialogue was suitably laden with curse words and profanity, fitting the R-rated tone of the movie as another Deadpool variant.

Headpool in Deadpool & Wolverine

13Headpool

Played By Nathan Fillion

Perhaps the strangest variant of Deadpool inDeadpool & Wolverineis Headpool. In the comics, Headpool began as simply another Deadpool from an alternate Earth. However, this timeline was infected by a zombie outbreak, leading Wade to be bitten. The zombified version of Wade was transported to Earth-616 where his body was torn apart, leaving him a talking, zombie head resembling the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool & Wolverine Sneakily Reveals The MCU’s Main Deadpool In Avengers: Secret Wars Theory

Deadpool & Wolverine may secretly have one key Deadpool variant based on a theory about their prospective ties to the MCU’s main universe.

For the most part, this is exactly howDeadpool & Wolverineportrays Headpool too. Longtime MCU cameo actor Nathan Fillion voices Headpool in the film, who is seen flying out of a portal alongside the other variants of the character. While he was not much use in the ensuing battle between the Corps and Deadpool and Wolverine, the character’s strange nature and iconic design leave an impression.

12Babypool

Played By Olin Reynolds

Kidpool is a child version of Deadpool, butDeadpool & Wolverinetakes this one step further. In the film, there is Babypool, which is exactly how it sounds. This variant of Wade Wilson is a baby, who naturally does not play a big part in the battle against Deadpool and Wolverine. Interestingly, another Reynolds brings Babypool to life, with Lively and Reynolds' fourth and most recent child, Olin Reynolds, portraying the variant.

11Cowboy Deadpool

Played By Matthew McConaughey

Undoubtedly one of the more recognizable variants of Deadpool present inDeadpool & Wolverine’s final act is Cowboy Deadpool. The character, like Babypool, looks exactly as one would expect. The variant wears the classic Deadpool suit but with all the cowboy get-up, from the boots, spurs, hat, and belt buckle. The quickdraw weapons also separate Cowboy Deadpool from his brethren in the Deadpool Corps.

Matthew McConaughey has often been fancast in a number of Marvel roles, including Norman Osborn in theMCU’s upcomingSpider-Man 4.

Babypool in Deadpool & Wolverine

Concerning who plays Cowboy Deadpool, the cameo is near perfect. InDeadpool & Wolverine, Matthew McConaughey finally makes his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by voicing the character. McConaughey’s southern drawl is perfect for a wild west version of Deadpool, lending his iconic voice to the character as he attempts to take down Wolverine and the original Deadpool alongside his peers in the Corps.

This casting is an especially exciting reveal given McConaughey had previously had to turn down an MCU role in prior history, rejecting the role of playing a villain inGuardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, and appearing as Water Padick inThe Dark Towerthat same year instead. As such, it seemed for a while as though the franchise may have missed its main opportunity to bring the actor into its fold, with Deadpool & Wolverine changing this seven years later.

Matthew McConaughey as Cowboypool in Deadpool & Wolverine

In fact, theDeadpool & Wolverinecrew themselves weren’t sure if they’d be able to get the actor for the role for some time, making his appearance even more noteworthy. MCU movie director Shawn Levy mentioned on theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast that Ryan Reynolds had initially voiced the character, stating, “I feel like, eventually, he was like, ‘Okay fine, we’ll stick with my voice unless we can get someone like Matthew McConaughey.’ Cut to…yes! Literally, days later, Matthew sent us that recording. It was so good and dropped in like butter. ‘Ryan, you’re fired as Cowboypool. Matthew, you’re in.”

10Welshpool

Played By Paul Mullin

Besides acting, Reynolds’ biggest business venture in recent years has been his ownership of Welsh football club, Wrexham A.F.C. This ownership, alongsideIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiastar Rob Mcelhenney, has been outlined in the Disney+ seriesWelcome to Wrexham.Naturally, many expected Deadpool’s meta brand of humor to contain references to Wrexham A.F.C., with the Deadpool Corps proving this to be true via its introduction of one particular noteworthy figure.

The character looks the same as most other Deadpool variants, only with a giant Welsh flag painted across his chest…

Among the army of Deadpool variants in the finale ofDeadpool & Wolverineis Welshpool. The character looks the same as most other Deadpool variants, only witha giant Welsh flag painted across his chest and on his pauldrons. In the film, Welshpool is portrayed by Wrexham player Paul Mullin, who has made over 100 appearances for Reynolds' club. The Welshpool suit now even resides in Wrexham AFC’s Centenary Club cafe within the STōK Cae Ras stadium for fans to visit, linking the club and the Deadpool variant even more solidly.

9Canadapool

Played By Alex Kyshkovych

Despite being clad in an all-black suit with an embossed maple leaf on the front, Canadapool is a relatively easy figure to miss, being shown only briefly whenDeadpool & Wolverineunveils the Deadpool Corps. However, Alex Kyshkovych’s Deadpool variant is a noteworthy figure for several reasons.

Kyshkovych has served as a stunt double for Ryan Reynolds in all three Deadpool movies, and has a further history with Fox’s X-Men films, also appearing as a stunt double inX-Men: Days Of Future Past,X-Men: Apocalypse, andDark Phoenix. This makes his appearance as his own distinct character inDeadpool & Wolverineall the more significant, and a suitable testament to the performer’s past with the superhero hero, which also includes stunt performer work for DC’sPeacemakerandArrowshows.
