Summary

DeadpoolandSpider-Manseem like total opposites, but on the page, they go together like peanut butter and…well, not jelly, exactly, but something unexpected that still goes really well with peanut butter. However, Deadpool’s web-slinger adventures thus far have all been with the original Spidey, Peter Parker. That’s about to change this October, whenWade Wilson comes to Brooklyn and meets Miles Morales.

Announced in Marvel’s October solicitations, the team-up will be a backup story inMiles Morales: Spider-Man#25, written by Cody Ziglar with art by Federico Vicentini. Ziglar proved his comedy chops in the writers' rooms ofFuturamaandRick and Morty, as well as writing for both theMiles MoralesandDeadpoolseries.

Introducing the two characters to each other sounds likecomedy gold, something Miles could use as he struggles withvampiric bloodlustafter the events of Marvel’sBlood Hunt. Deadpool isn’t the only Marvel bigshot in Brooklyn in this issue; Black Panther himself has come to handle Spider-Man.

Marvel Reveals Miles Morales' Adult Design & Costume in Dark Glimpse of Spider-Man’s Future

Miles Morales and Peter Parker have made a great pair as dual Spider-Men, but it seems that one dark future will have these two fighting.

Deadpool Has a Long History with Peter Parker’s Spider-Man

Deadpool’s ties to Spider-Man are built into his DNA. Co-creatorRob Liefeld said of Deadpool’s originsthat he was jealous of artists who got to draw Spider-Man: a head, two big eyes, and some lines. That’s why Deadpool’s mask is so similar to Spider-Man’s. Also, Marvel’s two biggest characters at the time were Wolverine and Spider-Man; as he wasn’t working on those books, Liefeld wanted to create his own versions he COULD use. Even though Deadpool’s first appearances pitted him against Cable and X-Force, as his popularity grew, he showed up to bother heroes across the Marvel Universe.

Spider-Man loves to quip with his enemies, as does Deadpool; however, their styles are different enough that the two work well together. The Merc with a Mouth is ruder and breaks the fourth wall, makingPeter Parker the straight man in their team-ups. Miles Morales is also funny, but a lot of his recent stories have dealt with his mental health issues and protecting his family and neighborhood. He has had his own share of fourth-wall breaks, saying inMiles Morales: Spider-Man(2018) #42 that he wondered if all of his actions werenoted in some sort of “cosmic book”for others to read.

Not Even Deadpool Can Predict How He and Miles' Story Will Play Out

Deadpool has dealt with his own mental health issues, though they usually come secondary to the comedy. It remains to be seen if he’ll be sympathetic to Miles, or if he’ll tease him, or if they’ll both crack jokes about therapy.Their dynamic isn’t a predictable one, and that’s what makes the prospect of this pairing so exciting. Deadpool is used to seeing through the multiverse, and Miles originally came from the Ultimate Universe, so they might even take an adventure through the Spider-verse. Whatever the two end up doing, the story I’m most excited about this October isDeadpoolandMiles Morales' Spider-Manteaming up for the first time.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25will be released on October 16 from Marvel Comics.

With his incredible powers of healing and regeneration, Deadpool was initially depicted as an X-Men villain but went on to become an anti-hero. After getting his own movie series starting in 2016, the third Deadpool movie finally brings the wisecracking, fourth-wall-breaking character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
