Summary

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 was a much lighter affair than recent episodes, if only by comparison, but it still ended on a dramatic note that set up a lot for episode #8 and beyond. It’s a surprisingly abrupt return to the original format of the story, and overall, it was a welcome change of pace that likely won’t end anytime soon.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 was the first episode to put the main duo of Kadode and Ouran largely out of focus, as the focus was mostly onAi Demoto, one of Kadode and Ouran’s friends, going on a date with a boy in their class.

An alien gushing blood after being shot in Dead Dead Demon Dededede Destruction

It was an episode that did a good job of illustrating how good the writing is, even when the focus is off of the main characters, and it leaves a lot to be excited about for episode #8 and beyond.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 opened with Kadode witnessing her friend Ai being asked out by a boy named Mojiya. The two of them had a good time together, but when they took a tour of the areas impacted by the aliens, Ai found herself talking about how guilty she felt over her parents living separately from her and her brothers so they could keep getting money from the government, and because of that,Ai decided that she didn’t feel good about entering a relationship with Mojiya.

Later that night, Ai was shopping to prepare dinner for her and her siblings when she discovered that her brother Shoshiro i.e. the Black Knight hadn’t returned home, despite how late it had gotten. Ai went around the neighborhood looking for him and eventually discovered, to her relief, thatthe Black Knight was competing in a fighting game tournament with Kadode and Ouran acting as his chaperones. Everyone went back to Ai’s house for dinner, and Ai, in the aftermath of her date, could happily say that she likes her life the way it is.

The soldier covered in the blood of the alien he shot

Sometime later, as Kadode and Ouran’s class had their graduation ceremony, the JSDF launched an assault on an abandoned area they believed aliens were hiding in. One of the soldiers eventually finds two aliens cowering in fear, begging for mercy in their alien language. Despite his visible hesitation, the soldier shoots one of the aliens point-blank. The last shot of the episode was of a bullet casing in a pool of alien blood, and a loud thud implied that the soldier shot the second alien, as well.

The series abilitiy to make its side characters just as interesting as its protagonists is highly impressive

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 might not have focused on Kadode and Ouran, but that didn’t make it any less fun to watch. Just like how episode #3 did a good job fleshing out Kiho’s character,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 was an excellent way of fleshing out Ai’s character, with her story giving her a lot of emotional depth after she originally came off as little more than a background character. Character writing has always been where Inio Asano shines, and Ai’s story in episode #7 was a prime example of that.

The bleak sci-fi drama continues to touch on the societal issues that make it stand out

Crunchyroll’sDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionreturned to the anime’s usual stylings of balancing lighthearted fun with darker storytelling with episode #7. For the most part, episode #7 is a calm exploration into Ai’s character and what makes her tick, but by the end of the episode,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #7 becomes a haunting depiction of the realities of war. That dichotomy was in perfect form in episode #7, and future episodes are bound to take it even further.

The presentation of the anime was also the best it had ever been. A major criticism ofCrunchyroll’s handling ofDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionhas been their seeming refusal to subtitle it properly, but as of episode #7,Crunchyroll is finally using proper subtitles forDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, with on-screen text, background dialogue, and even the theme song being translated in both the English and Japanese dubs.Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionfinally has the presentation to match its quality, and hopefully, this won’t be a one-time thing with the show.
