Depth Charge: Amanda Waller’s Aquaman-Inspired AMAZO Makes His Official Debut
Depth Charge is one of six power-stealing Amazo robots recruited forAmanda Waller’s newly formed Task Force VII. Each Amazo is modeled after a core Justice League hero, though Batman’s persona is embodied by Failsafe instead. Waller acquired these robots through an alliance with the Zur-En-Arrh-piloted Failsafe who collected the Amazos from an undisclosed source. In addition to these power-draining machines,Failsafe also gathered multiple Zur-En-Arrh Batmen from across the multiverse and infused their varied personalities into the Amazos.Consequently, Depth Charge and the rest of Task Force VII are each piloted by a unique version of Batman.
Each member of Task Force VII has acquired their abilities by siphoning powers from various heroes.Depth Charge initially stole his powers from the Doom Patrol, gaining a diverse set of abilities:Elasti-Woman’s body distortion, Negative Man’s radiation production, and Beast Girl’s influence over people’s amygdala. He utilized these powers to launch an assault on Atlantis, where he defeated Aquaman and absorbed his abilities, including all of Curry’s superhuman traits and his telepathic control over marine life—which explains the sharks he unleashed on Atlantis. With this potent combination, Depth Charge has achieved power levels comparable to a Kryptonian.

Despite Atlantis’ best efforts to resist, Depth Charge ultimately manages to“pacify” the kingdom, with Aquaman narrowly escaping. Initially, Arthur was determined to stay with his people, but Tempest convinced him to flee with the Doom Patrol, urging him to live to fight another day and honor the sacrifices of the fallen. Aquaman and the Doom Patrol are last seenarriving at the Fortress of Solitude, the current refuge and meeting point for all DC heroes. Meanwhile, Atlantis remains under the control of Waller and Depth Charge. With the Atlanteans refusing to cooperate with Waller’s plans,Aquaman’skingdom and its people are left in severe danger.
