The Garfield Moviehad a long road to the movie theater, but one of the largest pre-release topics of conversation about the film was the 2021 announcement that Chris Pratt would voice the iconic cat. It was, at the very least, unfortunate timing. The news came just months after Pratt was announced as the new voice of Mario forThe Super Mario Bros. Movie. But as much as Pratt’s apparent monopoly on beloved characters seemed to ruffle some feathers,The Garfield Movie’s box office successsuggested that general moviegoing audiences felt otherwise.
