Bruce Campbell’s claim to fame is in the horror genre. In his early 20s, the actor played Ash Williams in the B-horror movie classicThe Evil Deadin 1981.Directed by Sam Raimi, the film tells the story of five friends who travel to a cabin in the woods where they inadvertently cause the release of demons. Campbell would go on to reprise his role inEvil Dead IIsix years later. Ash is now considered one of the great horror protagonists of all time.
Campbell later took his horror career to the small screen with the seriesAsh vs Evil Dead. The 2015 Starz series was universally liked when it was released, getting a 99% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. After three seasons,Ash vs Evil Deadseason 4 was cancelleddespite enthusiasm from the cast and crew of the series. This cancellation was controversial, and in the intermittent years, fans and production team members alike have advocated for the show’s return. Unfortunately, it looks like another one of Campbell’s horror TV shows has been cancelled before its time.

Our Take On Hysteria!’s Cancellation
This Continues An Unfortunate Campbell Trend
Hysteria!’s cancellation on Peacock makes for an unfortunate trend in Campbell’s TV career. As in the case ofAsh vs Evil Dead,Hysteria!received very strong reviews. The series got a Certified Fresh91% on Rotten Tomatoesand a high 87% audience score. While Campbell has a loyal fan base that he has developed over several decades, it seems that his work fails to connect with mass audiences, leading to these lower ratings and show cancellations. Hopefully, Campbell will be able to have wider appeal with his next project, whatever that may be.
