What Happened in Blue Box Episode #5?

Taiki and Chinatsu Progress Swimmingly at the Aquarium

As Taiki wins a tight match against Shoichiro Kishi inBlue Boxepisode #5, it becomes apparent that he’ll get to go to the aquarium with Chinatsu per her agreement with Kyo Kasahara. As Taiki ruminates over what to wear, how to behave, and what to expect from their aquarium date,Chinatsu appears to lay his worries to rest as the two spend a charming and relaxing time together. Among the keepsakes of the date are a penguin charm Chinatsu puts on her bag and a commemorative penguin sticker Taiki suggests the two send each other via SMS if they ever need to talk.

It becomes clear that the two are building a relationship of mutual trust, so Chinatsu’s apology to Taiki about her comments in the previous episode about having extra time to improve his badminton game says that they value their connection. While Chinatsu doesn’t understand that her words bother Taiki becausethey remind him that she will leave school one year sooner than him, he appreciates how thoughtful she is. This gives Taiki plenty to talk about and, as Kyo points out afterward, is a reason for him to wonder if Chinatsu has mutual feelings for Taiki.

Hina at the end of Blue Box episode #5

But soon, Chinatsu encounters Hina at the clinic, where Hina sees the aquarium charm, and the two discuss Taiki and his general selflessness. While Hina spends her time talking Taiki up to Chinatsu,Chinatsu reads it as Hina having potential feelings for the boy, which, asBlue Boxsuggests throughout episode #5, is not a distant possibility. This will soon be explored further as Hina sees Chinatsu leave straight for the Inomata residence, leaving her blindsided by the discovery that they’re close enough to spend time under the same roof out of school, let alone living together.

Blue Box Episode #6 Explores Hina’s Bond with Taiki

“Why Did Chinatsu Go to Taiki’s House?”

As Hina learns more about Taiki’s secret living arrangement with Chinatsu inBlue Boxepisode #6, the anime explores her relatively longer connection with him andwhether there’s competition for Chinatsu on the horizon. It will be a more Hina-focused episode as it adaptsBlue Boxchapter #16 onwards, as she cheers him on at the badminton court and in courting Chinatsu. As Hina’s rhythmic gymnastics training hinges on her ability to remain focused and disciplined, the emotions will soon run high for the great Hina Chono inBlue Boxepisode #6.
