With the launch of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, both the Pixel 8 andPixel 8 Prohave officially been relegated to ‘last year’s model’ status. That’s not to say these are no longer fantastic handsets. Given their processors, cameras, and AI features, we think they can still hold their own among thebest Android phones. In fact, we have no problem recommending either Pixel 8—as long as the price is right.

Now that a new generation of Pixel phones is available, at no point, unless it’s out of sheer personal preference, should you pay retail for either the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro. You can sort of make an argument for the Pixel 8 at $700, since the 9 is slightly more expensive, but otherwise, at similar prices, the new phones are obviously better. The good news is, with the holidays around the corner, we should definitely start seeing some quality discounts here.
