Iain Made The Decision On His Own

Iain, who has beenstruggling as the Bosun throughoutBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9, named his Lead Deckhand prior to the first charter, solely based on what the exterior crew had on their CVs. While the Bosun and the Chief Stew have free reign over who they decide to name their Lead Deckhand and Second Stew, respectively, it’s typical that they not only wait until after the first charter, but check with the Captain ahead of their choice. Instead of following the process,Iain chose to name Joe his Lead Deckhand quickly, then didn’t tell Captain Sandyabout his choice.

Captain Sandy Felt Nathan Was Better Under Pressure

She Wasn’t Consulted About The Promotion

After learning thatJoe was named the Lead Deckhandwithout having seen the crew in action, Captain Sandy spoke to Iain about her disappointment. Sharing that she was irritated with Iain about his decision, Captain Sandy explained that she wasn’t happy with the way Joe was performing as the Lead Deckhand. She shared that she’d seen Joe make too many mistakes, and Nathan was performing better under pressure with their dockings throughout the charter season. While Captain Sandy wasn’t looking to remove Joe from his post, she wasn’t happy that the decision had been made without her being consulted whatsoever.

Nathan Has Better Skills

While Captain Sandy may not be pushing Iain to move Nathan into Joe’s Lead Deckhand position,it’s clear she would prefer it if Nathan was running the exterior team. WithNathan’s ability to act quicklyand accurately under pressure, he’d be a better fit to guide the team when Iain isn’t available. Nathan also has more technical knowledge of what’s going on with the Mustique, making it clear that he’s up for the job even if Joe isn’t. While it’s not likely Joe will be fired onBelow Deck Mediterranean, Nathan should be moved into his position as Lead Deckhand.
