DC is capitalizing on the Multiverse fervor with theintroduction of the Absolute Universe, a brand-new universe that’ll be free from main continuity and will allow writers to tell the stories they want to tell. While it’s not exactly clear how the Absolute Universe came to be, the one thing fans know for sure is that Darkseid is somehow involved, as depicted in a variant cover by Rafa Sandoval for the essential-readingDC All In Special#1.

Batman is brilliant at coming up with contingency plans, and it’s no surprise that he’d have one for Darkseid. While it’s not currently clear what this new suit is capable of, Batman has brought down Darkseid several times over the decades. Batman most famously defeated Darkseid during the events ofFinal Crisisby Grant Morrison, J.G. Jones, and Doug Mahne, and duringDark Nights: Metalby Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo,Batman created a special pair of goggles that could block Darkseid’s powers.
DuringBatman and Robin:Robin Risesby Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, and Andy Kubert,Batman unveiled his most powerful costumeever: the Hellbat suit, which is capable of surviving on Apokolips and bringing down Darkseid if necessary. Bruce Wayne’s own life force powers the Hellbat suit. The longer he stays in it, the stronger the suit gets, but the more of his life is zapped away. This suit wascapable of beating a weakened Darkseidin one-on-one combat fairly easily, and it’s likely this new suit is even stronger.

Batman excels at improving himself. He started as a pampered rich boy and became one of the deadliest fighters on the planet. Bruce is very aware of the downsides of using the Hellbat suit, and it’s not unreasonable to assume that he’s spent a few years working out its kinks. This new suit from Sandoval’s variant cover may have all the power of the Hellbat without the weakness of feeding on Bruce Wayne’s life force.
