The Cunning Hares Earn Their Name From Their Clever Leader
The Cunning Hares, officially named Gentle House, is the first faction of characters that players meet inZenless Zone Zero. They are a group of mercenaries who take on jobs related to Hollows - a type of supernatural disaster that spawns the game’s main enemies. The group earned their nickname thanks to their founder, Nicole, who isknown to be especially clever. Despite being smart on the battlefield, Nicole isn’t too wise with her money, and the Hares often struggle with debt.
Other members ofthe Cunning Hares include Billy Kid, an eccentric cyborg who is obsessed with a TV show called Starlight Knight, and Anby Demara a young and talented fighter who was taken in by Nicole. Nicole also has an unhealthy relationship with media, often having trouble differentiating between what she sees in movies and real life. The final member (as of now) is Nekomata, a literal cat girl who has a special love for mackerel.

Victoria Housekeeping Co. is an agency that styles itself after old-timey house attendants. Theytackle jobs ranging from menial cleaning tasks to taking down a Hollowfull of Ethereals, all while dressed in traditional maid or butler outfits. This group also has a classic horror subtheme, referencing icons like Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the shark fromJaws. Victoria Housekeeping Co. is known to sometimes cause collateral damage through their extreme methods, but they manage to stay popular with clients due to their ability to get a job done.
The founder of Victoria Houskeeping Co. does not seem to have been revealed yet, but there are four playable agents from the company. Von Lycaon, perhaps the most obvious reference to a horror property, is an anthropomorphic wolf with cyborg legs. He is joined by Ellen Joe, whose shark tail and jaw-like halberd make her a clear reference to shark movies. Rina, another operative, is accompanied by floating dolls, an allusion to haunted doll movies likeAnnabelle. Corin rounds out the team, whose bolts and green hair are a subtle reference to Frankenstein’s Monster.

The Sons of Calydon are a tough group that live in the outer parts of New Eridu. They arestyled after a biker gang, both through their hog insignia and through the spikey leather outfits that they wear. One of the members, Lucy, is accompanied by three small hog-like creatures decked out in their own biker outfits to match hers. Lucy’s tough aesthetic perfectly matches her weapons of choice: a bat and brass knuckles. The other member of the gang that has been revealed so far is Piper, the team’s driver, who is styled more like a mechanic.
The Sons of Calydon seem to be a more rambunctious bunch than some of the other groups. Their tagline “I come, I see, I crash!” definitely hints at their destructive methods. Additionally, the name Sonf of Calydon and their boar symbol is likely a reference to a Greek myth where Artemis sent a massive boar to wreak havoc on the city of Calydon.

The Criminal Investigation Special Response Team Is A Team Of Officials
The Criminal Investigation Special Response Team is a subsection of the New Eridu Public Security. This means, unlike other factions, this team is part of a governing body as opposed to independent contractors. This is reflected in the team’s moreprofessional outfits and subdued choice of weapons, at least when compared to other factions in the game.
The team is led by their onlycurrent playable character Zhu Yuan. Zhu Yuan is characterized as an ambitious go-getter who is gunning to be part of the top brass in the NEPS. She is the most official-looking member of the team that has been revealed so far, wearing a NEPS uniform over a shirt and tie.
While Zhu Yuan is the only currently playable character for the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team, two more have been announced. One is Qingyi, who seems to be characterized as being a bit more laid back based on the current quotes about her in the game. The other is Seth Lowell, an idealistic younger member of the team who seems fully committed to helping people. A fourth member of the team has been shown in promotional art, yet there still isn’t any info on her.
4Hollow Special Operations Section 6 Is The Best Of The Best
Section 6 Is An Elite Force Of Agents
Hollow Special Operations Section 6 is one part of the larger Hollow Special Operations group. This is the militant wing of the H.A.N.D. organization, which is responsible for responding to Hollow incidents. Section 6 specifically is one of the Hollow Special Operations’ newest units and is led by Hoshimi Miyabi, one of the seven individuals who have most helped stop the spread of the Hollows.
Miyabi is not yet a playable character inZenless Zone Zero, though it has been announced that she’s on her way and that she will have the ice attribute. Currently, the only playable agent from Section 6 is Soukaku. Soukaku is characterized by her youth and innocence, as well as her love for all types of food. She may seem like an unconventional choice for one of theHollow Special Operations’ elite teams, but Soukaku is more than capable of handling herself in a fight despite her appearance. Several Section 6 members have been teased but not fleshed out yet.

Belobog Heavy Industries is aunique construction company operating in New Eridu. They are best known for doing projects inside of Hollow-effected areas, which are usually considered too dangerous. Their success in these endeavors earned the group a lot of respect in New Eridu. However, when the president of the company disappeared, Belobog lost some face with the public. Now, under the control of the president’s daughter, Koleda Belobog, they are trying to regain some of their image in the public eye.
Koleda is one of the playable agents inZenless Zone Zero, using her advanced construction tools to cut her way through enemies. Koleda has big plans for her company and the loyalty of her workers to back her up. Koleda is joined by Grace, an engineer who loves to take things apart and figure out how they work, and Anton, a project manager and enthusiastic leader. Ben Bigger rounds out the team. He is an anthropomorphic bear who, despite his tough look, is also a skilled engineer.
Obol Squad is a part of the New Eridu Defense Force’s Obsidian Division. Not too much has been revealed about this organization just yet, but hints at what it asks of its members can be seen through the head of Obol Squad: Soldier 11. Soldier 11 is wholly obedient to her squad, following orders to a tee. An in-game file on her describes her as the perfect soldier. Parts of the file are also redacted, hinting atthe clandestine nature of Obol Squad.
Currently, Soldier 11 is the only playable member of Obol Squad inZenless Zone Zero. From what has been revealed about her so far, Soldier 11 seems to have stripped herself of her former identity to become the perfect soldier. The New Eridu Defense Force dictates that she sees herself as nothing more than a weapon meant to be pointed at an enemy. However, there are some hints that Soldier 11 may be less on board than she initially seems.

The newest faction to be announced forZenless Zone Zerois the Virtual Idols. Currently, no members of the faction have been given names, though three members have been previewed in concept art for the game. Going off their name and look, it would seem that the Virtual Idols are a group that is styled after the type of idols in Japanese pop culture who are often multifaceted entertainers with carefully crafted images. It isn’t quite clear what any of these agents’ in-game abilities will be yet or how the faction fits into New Eridu.
As more characters continue to get added toZenless Zone Zero, the identity of these factions will likely start to become clearer. As of right now, players have been given a mixed amount of exposition on each one, some staying a bit more mysterious while others seem to be a bit more fleshed out. As time goes on, each faction will likely develop a stronger identity.
