After smashing sales records and wowing fans and critics alike, theThundercatsare heading back to their comic book roots in a new omnibus edition.Thundercatshas a rich history on television, one stretching over almost four decades. The franchise has deep ties to comics as well, including a fondly remembered stint at Marvel in the mid-1980s. Now those classicThundercatscomics are finally returning to print courtesy of Dynamite Entertainment.

Dynamiteannounced the forthcoming omnibus via a post on their website. TheThundercats Classic Years Omnibuscollects all 24 issues of Marvel’sThundercatscomic, which ran between 1985 and 1988. Dynamite’s forthcoming omnibus marks the return of these issues to print, almost 40 years after their first publication, recolored and remastered to make them look as awesome as ever. Dynamite will launch a crowdfunding campaign for the omnibus on November 18 viaBackerIt. While exact rewards have not been announced, Dynamite has promised it will come in “premium” and “collectible” formats.

Dynamite’sThundercats Classic Years Omnibuscomes on the eve of the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Launched in 1985 with an animated series and tie-in toy line,Thundercatsquickly became popular with its target demographic. Marvel, seeing something special in the franchise, picked up the comic book rights, and the first issue ofThundercatsarrived by the end of 1985. The book ran for 24 issues under Marvel’s younger-reader oriented Star imprint, and boasted top talent, such as Gerry Conway, David Micheline and Tom DeFalco. The series ceased publication in 1988, and back issues now command top dollar on the secondary market.

Currently,Thundercatsis experiencing one of its biggest relaunches ever thanks to Dynamite Entertainment, writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss.
