Summary

Sarah J. Maas intends to write moreA Court of Thorns & Rosesbooks, and one of them will be about Elain Archeron. When Elain’s book comes out,it will have a huge advantage overNesta’s story inA Court of Silver Flames.Maas’Court of Thorns & Rosesseries follows Feyre Archeron for its first three books, as well as itsCourt of Frost & Starlightnovella. However, it shifts its focus in the fifth installment, which puts Feyre’s sister, Nesta, in the spotlight. And thesixthACOTARbookseems likely to switch heroines yet again.

While there are plenty of supportingACOTARcharacters Maas can explore in more depth,Feyre’s other sister is an obvious candidate for a spinoff story. One of the most populartheories about the nextACOTARbookis that it will follow Elain. And if this proves true — or even if a later installment tackles her journey — it will have a leg up overA Court of Silver Flames. After all, despite being sisters, Elain and Nesta are very different characters. This could work to Elain’s advantage when the time comes for Maas to tell her story.

During an appearance onLive Talks Los Angeles, Maas told Eva Chen that she has wanted to write Nesta and Elain’s stories since they reappeared inA Court of Mist & Fury. While she elaborated more on her plans for Nesta, she admitted that she has dropped clues to set up Elain’s journey as well.

There’s so much to explore when it comes to her character, so it makes sense for Elain to have her ownA Court of Thorns & Rosesbook.

We know from the original trilogy that she’s Lucien Vanserra’s mate, but this isn’t a bond she’s thrilled about.ACOTARalso teases tensions between Elain and Azriel, though these haven’t been addressed by either character. On top of all that, Elain receives powers from the Cauldron, and they’re underutilized. There’s so much to explore when it comes to her character, so it makes sense for Elain to get her ownA Court of Thorns & Rosesbook.

Elain’s ACOTAR Book Has 1 Huge Advantage Over Nesta’s Story Already

She’s A More Likable Character (& Less Explored In Previous Books)

While both Nesta and Elain have lots of potential after the first fewACOTARbooks, Elain’s spinoff story has a major advantage over Nesta’s.Elain is a far less controversial character than the oldest Archeron sister, which means readers will be more inclined to pick up her story. Nesta is the most grating of the three sisters, and she makes a lot of questionable choices throughout Maas' books. While some readers love this about her, others find Nesta’s personality off-putting. This setsA Court of Silver Flamesup to be a divisive read.

Since we don’t know as much about her inner world, it’ll be more interesting to step into her shoes in her ownACOTARbook.

Nesta’s characterization is also much clearer in the originalCourt of Thorns & Rosesbooks, which leaves readers with fewer questions about her ahead ofA Court of Silver Flames.By contrast,Elain feels less developed. Since we don’t know as much about her inner world, it’ll be more interesting to step into her shoes in her ownACOTARbook. She feels a lot less predictable than Nesta. And with the way Maas has set up Elain’s potential love interests, her story should be far less predictable too.

Elain’s Romance In A Court Of Thorns & Roses Is Much Less Predictable Than Nesta’s

It’s Unclear If She’ll Wind Up With Lucien Or Azriel

Elain’s characterization makes herACOTARbook more likely to succeed, but so does her intriguing romance setup. It’s clear from the beginning that Nesta and Cassian will end up together, andA Court of Silver Flamesshows us how it happens. Elain, on the other hand, has two potential characters she could pursue. This makes her story all the more mysterious, asreaders have no idea whether Maas will pair her with Lucien or Azriel. Elain and Azriel feel like the less obvious choice — such a relationshipwould flip Maas' fated mates trope— but Lucien and Elain are equally interesting.

Needless to say, an Elain book feels even more warranted than one focused on Nesta. There are so many things Maas needs to clarify about her characterthat it’d be strange if she didn’t get her own novel. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to dive into Elain’s story soon. After so much setup in the previousCourt of Thorns & Rosesbooks, it’s high time the last Archeron sister gets to go on an adventure.
